Ever notice how they get the stink eye right away?

ETA pic: Does that body shape and big head mean anything? I'm thinking it'll look more Cornish than Orp but wow what a big head.

All of the other 4 quit a few days ago. No idea why. I did the float test and nothing moved so I opened the tops. Lots of development but plenty yolk still.

Sorry they never all hatched.
Every big headed chick I hatched in the last two years turned out to be male.

Sorry about the loss.

The body shape and big head is what I was talking about - It's the characteristic hard feathering you see. The chicks will appear smaller than others but only because their fluff isn't as fluffy.

Yours looks very much like mine but black.

I'm gonna love comparing notes on your Cornish x English type Orpington versus my Shamo x imported Sussex. They're very similar yet at the same time, not so much.

It will be very interesting to me to how it grows out.

OH, man, your luck sounds too much like mine. I've been calling it "he" out of habit and now I'm hoping it's really habit and not instinct that makes me do that. Since I can't really keep any more roos, maybe if it's a male it'll at least be tasty!

She is about 9 pounds the feathering makes her look smaller, the chick in the other photo is about 10 weeks and is a cockeral. They mature a bit faster than the LF cornish that I have and she lays about 200 eggs a year.

Nice!

I think my one little hybrid baby is a boy. Looking closely at the pale yellow on its head, I think I see a good even paler yellow outline of what should be the dot on the head resembling barring, and the marking looks awfully big (boy) PLUS I honestly think if it were a girl, it would be a darker chick.

Yes, there's Wheaten influence on both sides to make the chick very yellow and practically impossible to sex so young, even though it is sex-linked, but the Columbian from the Sussex should help darken the chick if it were a female (buff columbian)
