Red mite infestation!!! How to treat coop in subzero temps?

That's even more up to date than the 1 I looked at and says 7 days for meat. 2 meds higher on the list it says don't eat eggs for 5 days, but under sevin, there is no egg note. I'm taking that as eggs are good to go while treating, that sure would help my holiday baking.

I just found red mites on the girls. Oh my.
Quite cold here. Did the Sevin.
My question is: Can I use the eggs ? For people? for the Dogs ?
Or not at all.?
Thank you, I did read everything, but I am kinda upset with this infestation. And when I read everything goes over my head a little bit. thank you.

I just treated a few days ago, but all looks well. I have eggs for now, most veggies it says not to eat for 3 days if u use. So safe side, i'm ditching the eggs for 3 days-guess i'm tryin to meet in the middle. lol I will retreat Tues, but all looks good so far. Love this site and good luck on the mites, hope this works

I just want to throw this out to everybody. I have had chickens for 10 years, and I have never had a mite infestation that I am aware of. Am I missing something or am I just lucky? Or could it be that they have had them and I never noticed?

If your birds had them, and you didn't notice, you'd have an infestation by now. An area for birds to dust helps quite a bit. Lots of folks get an infestation by not treating their coops regularly, or before Winter, and the mites seek a warm bird for survival. I check the vents by parting feathers around the vent frequently and haven't seen a mite in about 5 years. Scaly Leg mites on my older birds have to be watched closely. I use Nu-stock or sulfur salve to treat scaly leg mites.

It is something.
I "thought" my Girls would NEVER have lice.
They got lice last summer.
my Girls would NEVER get red mites,
they had red mites this late fall. All of it gross.
We do have many evergreens, pines, etc.
And we have lots of sparrows right above their coop.
I don't know if that is the reason for the lice and the mites.
Sure did teach me to check the girls tho.

I believe from the sparrows and wild birds. We have bird netting over our runs spring to fall and no problems, then took it down so snow wouldn't weigh it down and all the wild birds are in there feasting and then 1 of my girls had lice nits on her feathers. Can't wait for spring

Fortunately, you found only one girl with lice.
ALL of my girls had the lice and all had the red mites.
I also did what Dawg suggested to blow in the sevin with a blower which I did.
It has helped.
