So I am preparing for winter, and I was wondering if I should use the clear/yellow heat lamps, or should I use a red one. I don't know if either one is better, I am worried that the bright light is probably bad for them, but then, does the red one have any disadvantages? I tried the ceramic bulbs that don't make light, but those are bad.

Thanks for any responses!

Many years ago I had a heat lamp in the coop. I walked out to the coop, walked in, and the cold gust of air that accompanied me busted the heat lamp.

Shards of hot glass shattered into the bedding.

Soooo.... I am anti-heat lamps.

If you need or not heat, depends on how cold it gets where you are.

Most standard duck breeds are quite hardy.

Birds do not see red light the same way humans do....it doesn't stress them out or make them become aggressive as some conflicting information is frequently cited.
Ducks are pretty well suited to cold weather....as long as they can get out of the wind and have open water.

the only reason I use heat lamps is cuz I have a wood duck, that is very cold sensitive.
i think I'll use the red lamps. Thank you!
I would look into a flat panel heater, and maybe a heated pad to stand on. They make heated pads for dogs that are durable.
