Hello! I have a rooster who is almost a year old and lost his back end feathers about 2/3 months ago and they still haven’t grown back. I originally thought maybe he was molting so I wasn’t too worried but then as time went on, he hasn’t grown them back. The skin has always been really red. He is not exhibiting any abnormal behavior and his comb is very nice and red. The only other sign that something is wrong with him is that his poop is normal texture but can be partially bright green. No other chickens have poop or feather issues. They are currently on a dry lot for their run. I have checked him for mites and lice and did not see any

I have had chickens for about 5 years now and have never had anything like this occur, so any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

:welcome The red coloring is most likely hormonal in nature and quite normal. I believe the feather loss is a result of feather pecking/plucking. It's a bad habit that generally starts in the winter when birds are confined and bored.

:welcome :frow I agree but I would also check at night after the birds roost and check them over as some pest only come out at night to feed on the birds. I use a headlamp so I have both of my hands free to inspect the birds. I like to cover all of the bases. Good luck...
