Red Star are the best.  Your white red star is a young Roo.  The hens are red and the Roos are white.  No sexing here.   How great is that.

Thanks!! I'm not experienced and did pay extra to have pullets, not sure why Meyers didn't catch that;(

I'm thinking of adding a 6 week old into my 9 week old flock. I'm gettibg it from the same place which gets there's from Meyers. Do I quarantine? My husband does not want anymore babies in the house so it needs to be in the coop with the others, yes I'm using a seperation methods to ensure it won't be killed. How long do I need to do this?

I dragged my hubby to the Oregon Fall Poultry Swap in September, looking for the perfect girl to round out my backyard flock (2 EE'S, and a Barred Rock all 12 wks now). I fell in love with a beautiful Red Star. We brought her home and set her up in her quarantine crate.

We eventually moved her out with the girls.

We were told her hatch date, and that she should start laying at about 20 wks. At 20 wks almost to the day, we were surprised with the cutest little brown egg ever! We've had 3 eggs in as many days. Hopefully they get bigger soon.

I have a flock of 24 Red star hens and they are 6 weeks old today. I love them all. I have hand raised them since they were 5 days old. They all have great personalities and are growing in leaps and bounds.. They like when I come in the run and sit on my stool and they fly to my lap and sit on my feet or fly around me. Peck me on my butt when I ignore them. They are a great breed. I am happy I gave them a try. I also have 12 RIR's that are a year old this month and they are laying from 9-12 eggs a day.. I am going to sell 6 of the babies and most of the RIR's so if anyone is interested I am in Crawford County, Ga. Here are some pics of the Babies and the Adult hens.. The 6 week old Red Star Hens I am asking $8. each and I have six available and the RIR hens $12. each and have 10 available. Send me a message if you are interested.. Pick up on site only!

As you see they are all very colorful at this point of all red and white.... a very gentle personality.. Hand and Heart raised!

This was their first dirt bath at 5 weeks old.... lol

they love sitting on your feet, shoes or no shoes...

McMurray Red Stars are certainly beautiful hens... Here are mine at 21 weeks old.. I now have 21 hens and loving working with them everyday! They show me that love right back. They have been laying since they were 19 weeks..not all but today I had 18 eggs Medium to large and a couple Jumbo double yolkers...

Help!! I came home from work today (I only work 4 hours) and my neighbors came to tell me that their dog got my hen. Apparently the dog jumped my fence and got into the coop. My hen has wounds which I did clean and use blu-kote on. My concern is she can't walk. It was suggested that she may have a dislocated hip. I don't see a break. Has anyone had experience in this? How do I treat this?

Wow, that is really cool. I have four Red Stars and until recently I thought they were a different breed. They are great birds and have laid me some nice big eggs and one huge. I will have to post a pic. I have a carton of green eggs that are extra large and I put the huge one in with them. I couldn't find that picture but here's a comparison. One ex large and one jumbo.

I couldn't believe it. One of the biggest eggs I've seen. Suppose there's triplets in there. LOL

To Iwanaplae2. Your eggs will get great big. That must be the reward I got for having late layers. My chickens were 7 months old when they started laying but they lay nice big beautiful eggs. Love my Red Stars!
