Hmmm... So, what's one better than a Yahtzee? I found twelve eggs today in the coop with eleven birds.

This seals it for me. I could not decide upon getting Rhode Islands or the Red Stars.....

they say its 'impossible' for a hen to lay 2 eggs a day, but I think they can..... did you miss an egg last time you collected eggs?

We only got nine the day before, and closed up the coop by 8pm, so it's possible one laid one the night before. My wife was running late, and saw there were eleven in the nest boxes when she was opening the coop, but didn't have time to collect them. I didn't get home until 5pm, and collected the eggs then. Eleven birds laid twenty-one eggs in two days. Nobody knows when that twelfth was actually laid, but it was collected on the 16th, so that's when it gets written on the calendar.

Wowzer all those double yolkers....Now I want a few Red Stars !

I started with two red stars from TSC as chicks. Most day they lay one egg each but from time to time one of them will lay two eggs a day. Bought three more red stars from Shook Poultry Sept. 1st and one of those has started to lay. Great layers and very friendly to boot.

Red Stars (aka Red Sexlinks) are bred for egg production and as such, have a smaller body and a great reputation as a layer. You can eat any chicken, but there are others I would recommend as a meat bird over a Red Sexlink.
