Red Stars

My Red stars are the friendly girls! and 'Bird of course who is the best rooster in the world! they all laid eggs for me everyday (each one) for the first 2 years. even through winter. They have slowed down a lot now, but still lay for me. They are so docile and comical to watch! I have had a few different breeds, but will always fall back on my red stars. I can not say enough good about them. They make awesome pets as well!

I have only 6 birds, 2 Red Star, 2 Buff Orpington, 1 White Orpington, 1 Aracona. The Red Stars are by far the less timid most friendly, and less prone to panic at unusual events. We had snow today and when I opened the lot to let them roam. They all stopped at the gate and looked at the strange white stuff for several minutes, but it was the Red Stars who were the most adventurous and dared to venture out first. Their eggs are the darkest brown so it's easy to see that they are the best layers.

Hi all! I rescued two Red Star pullets/hens this past weekend and noticed one doesn't have yellow legs but seems to be laying age?
Any insight into this? I posted a picture below. It's been almost a week since I got them and neither have layed. Are the pale legs a sign she is a mix or something is wrong? They both eat like crazy and seem healthy so far.

Same day as ours! That must make us cousins, or something. Ours got stuck at the regional PO distribution center down in Wausau (one-and-a-half hours south) one extra night, so we didn't get them until Thursday the 24th. I don't know if MPC hatches, or if they just coordinate sales... If they are just the middle-man, then our birds could have come from separate hatchers.

I thought my wife was joking when she said she found one in the coop on January 3rd.

PS -- The four jumbos I cooked for breakfast this morning were all double-yolkers...

And, they were delicious.

I thought about sending the picture to that British newspaper which recently had the story about the "trillion-to-one odds" six double-yolkers in a half-dozen carton.
LOVE this photo of your four double-yolkers!

Red Star are the best. Your white red star is a young Roo. The hens are red and the Roos are white. No sexing here. How great is that.
Best wishes,
Cindy
