Red Stars?

That's what they look like to me. I have 4 of them and they are great pets and great with the grand kids. We got ours from Moyer's Chicks in Quakertown, PA.

That is the cutest picture!! I have three pullets--they change every day!! What roo would be good to breed with these?

Thank you! That is Sean, our chicken wrangler :) As far as a roo to breed them with, I'm not really sure since they are a hybrid cross between a White Rock egg-layer type female and a Rhode Island Red male. We just got our first male last week, a black cochin, so maybe we'll see what becomes of that...lol.

the hens in your photo are for sure red stars! red stars are hybrids crossed between rhode island reds, new hampshire reds and white leghorns . ! have nine hens ,I bought at tractor supply co, they were about a week oild when i got them.they are nine months old now,and on a average I get nine big brown eggs a day! so get ready to gather a lot of nice size eggs .good luck with your hens.

I recently purchased 8 Red Star hens and 1 Rooster. They are 16 weeks old. When should they begin laying and are there any special characteristics that I should know about this breed?

JIChickenKid,

Your Red Stars could start laying as early as 20 weeks!
Have some laying boxes ready. Also, you will get an much as an egg a day(almost) form these little breakfast factories. You are going to love them.

I love ma redstars tho.... Got 87 of em... But they're not yet laying and they're almost 5months old can't wait...can't they lay on bare floor
