Hi minnesotachickenbreeder

The male in the pictures has the best comb of the five. In the last few weeks the males had started to run each other so I had to take four out and put them in another pen. I will get some pictures of the other four males and post them later. One of the four has a larger comb than the one in the pictures but is more square than round. The other three has combs that are smaller and not so developed.

Hello there,

I have been lurking around this thread for a while and I just want to say, you really seem to have a passion for Redcaps! I wanted to ask a few questions if you don't mind..... Here they are; What is your plan for your Redcaps? What are your goals and how will you get there? How many birds do you think you will need for your F1's?

I can't wait to see how they fill out, too early to really judge them, but looking good now!

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mitch

What is your plan for your Redcaps? I plan to breed my Redcaps to the Standard and some day I hope to have a very nice Redcap breeding flock.

What are your goals and how will you get there? I have read that the hatchery Redcaps are on the smaller side so first I want to bring up the weight in my Redcaps at least up to the Standard.

How many birds do you think you will need for your F1's? I plan to have two breeding pens next year. I have 5 males and 16 females. The two males that nearest fit the Standard will have a breeding pen with hens that nearest fit the Standard.

Very good! Make sure not to use too many females, some do. Have you had the chance to look at the ALBC article on breeding, I highly recommend them.

Yes I think The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy is a great place to get information on rare breeds of poultry!

How many females do you recommend per breeding pen with only one male?
