Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: And Everything Thereafter

Seems just about everyone around here has dogs. Thankfully most of them are quiet, but every now and then something will get the whole neighborhood riled up.

It's probably the biggest reason I haven't had a problem with land predators.

That's very true. We've got dogs and most people around us do too. There are lots of hunters around, so lots of hounds any beagles. The 3 yappers next door are chihuahuas and one mini schnauzer. But they just let them roam freely. Drives me insane, and we're working on putting a fence up.

OmG those are the worst, hounds with all the baying and the constant yipping of the chihuahuas. I can't imagine.
Our dog is half coonhound and she never does the baying. But, she's mostly indoors and never hunted a day in her life lol. She's quite lazy. Maybe that's why? But someone nearby must have a dozen of them and I can hear them baying often.

I get the yippy 'howl' of coyotes on occasion from the wooded area across the road from us. When Daisy hears it she tucks her tail and goes back inside.

If I ever get attacked by coyotes I don't think she'd be much help, lol.

I haven't check in on this thread in a while, how are things going @redinator? How are the flocks and chicks? Any eggs cooking in the bators? 😊
Welcome back! Am I that predictable?

26 more in the incubator.

Traded my RIR for some Black Jersey Giants. They broke quarantine after a week, but I got them from a friend, so I know they're not likely to have any issues.

Moved my 4 remaining 'older' chickens w Sweety's chicks into the larger run with the now 15 and 16 week olds. The 9x18 run will be used for the new chicks 3-4 weeks after hatch.

The Jersey Giants are still roosting in the quarantine yard, but they have access to the entire yard and rest of the flock, so far no real issues. The Jersey Giant male is super chill and only defends himself or protects his girls.

I think that's the bulk of it.

Oh, let's not forget . . .I'm in the group hatch along if you want to pop in see how that's going: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...een-hatch-along.1676425/page-43#post-28867565

We're on day 6 and I plan to do my first candling on day 10. I'm also trying a dry hatch for the first time, hoping for better results than the last two hatches.

Sounds like things are going well. 😊 Glad to hear the chicks are all getting along. I love Jersey Giants, post pics when you can!

I figured you were involved in some sort of hatch a long here on BYC. ;) Hatching is just too addicting to not want to join in on the fun. 😁 Best wishes with your hatch! :jumpy
