I never knew that either until recently. Luckily I read it not too long ago. Our roosting bars are just 2x4s.Everyone made it through. The temps dipped into mid to low 30's overnight and everyone made it.
I did realize while researching 'how to keep chickens warm' I need to change out the round poles for flat pieces of wood on their perches. That will be on my project list for this weekend.
I have two of the ladder perches side by side. I plan to bend/trim the side rails (?) so they line up better and make one long perch with 2-3ft sections between the 4 rails. That sounds right. Our coop and run and fully enclosed and they don't get any time outside of them due to predators. But Shirley and Rilla sure can fly! I'll also need to collect up the bantams over the next few nights and do wing trims. They keep getting on top of the runs and now the standards are following them up there.![]()

Dutch: Kettle and Pot's Chick

Dutch just recently started getting the leakage across his back. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and thought he was Kettle until I realized the size difference. Dutch even has his dad's wonky comb.
