Frizzle Bantam hen sunning herself in the sun. I promise she is healthy and well taken care of! She just likes to soak in the sun in really odd positions sometimes.

I have a picture I would like to contribute. Something nobody wants to see in their flock. Ocular Marek's Disease in a Buff Orpington hen:

Her name was Sassy. The Herpes infection was confirmed by my husband who is a retired eye doctor. Both eyes were involved. Her vision was poor but she got around well with limited vision for three years. In fact she was alpha hen for awhile. She eventually developed seizures and stroke like symptoms when the OMD progressed and had to be put down.

I totally dropped the ball on this thread, and feel horrible about it. Especially after so many wonderful pics have been added. BUT I do plan to work on it eventually! I got some decent pics of internal pips, so I thought I’d revive the thread.
These are Call duck eggs, but chickens look about the same, with maybe a more prominent V shape, since their beak is more pointy than a duck bill.

Splash Ameraucana showed no signs of illness and then one evening dropped dead. After opening her I discovered the perfect picture of Egg Yolk Peritonitis (EYP). Her entire abdomen was filled with egg yolk.

She also was an eater of anything obviously. This picture shows the contents of her gizzard, several pieces of plastic, but also a couple of aluminum objects, including a washer. This picture also shows the only red meat in a chicken, the pure muscle of the gizzard.
