Pack -n -plays arent very soft. We used one with our oldest.. she never could sleep well in it, if at all. I ended up putting so many blankets in there to try to soften it up, I was afraid she would smother.
Co-sleeping is okay, if you get those little beds for them to sleep in. It is soooo dangerous to do co-sleeping. Adults do not realize how much they toss and turn while asleep. Babies tend to roll into the turns an adult makes. Try sleeping with a basket ball for a few nights. Afterwards, reasses the co-sleeping arrangement.
I don't think a baby is very comparable to a basketball. Mothers and babies are in tune with each other while co-sleeping, parents sense where the baby is in bed at night even while asleep, just like how you don't roll right out of the bed onto the floor even though you're sleeping. The only time co-sleeping is dangerous is if you have a pillow top mattress, or an adult in bed is drugged, drunk, or something along those lines.
That being said, I'm sure there are some babies who sleep better in their own space. I've heard tale of such babes, lol. Mine is like a heat seeking missile. She torpedoes towards the nearest warm body and wakes up if she doesn't find one.
Very well said and I personally feel the same way. My husband is a worrywart when it comes to co-sleeping and that is what prompted me to buy the snuggle nest thingy that goes on your bed, between mom and dad to lay the baby in. Prior to that my two older babies just slept right in the bed from birth on.
I love shopping. That's my downfall. As much as I may not use the stuff I buy, I still love to buy it LOL
My mother flipped her lid when I bought my daughter a $200+ Britax car seat but it's supposed to be like the safest one and that is exactly what I wanted, safety.
BTW, that carseat is AWESOME, she is still riding in it now at 3 years old when she has had it since birth. The carseat is nice to look at, extremely easy to wash the cover, etc.
I wanted one carseat to last her until she would need a booster seat. So many parents buy the travel system with stroller and small infant carseat, then one or two more carseats before putting their kid in a booster at the proper age and weight. Well when you think of it like that no wonder you cannot afford a nice carseat! I cannot imagine spending $200+ 3 times over when I only had to spend it once on this one and it's from 5-60 pounds!
Plus, I have always felt that the travel systems encourage the parents to not hold the baby enough. Plunk your baby into the infant carseat in the house, snap them into the base in your car, get to where you're going, snap them into the coordinating stroller, snap them back into the car, and then go home. The parents look back and see that they've been out 4 hours and the baby has never once been out of the carseat!
Even if I was just running into a grocery store for 5 things I always took my babies out of their carseat and put them into a sling.
