Regular feed to organic change ?

I have a bunch of birds that nest in the deep bedding, or the deep litter, from time to time - but non of the layers lay there more than a couple times before they move to the nexsting boxes with the other girls.

Of course my boxes are nothing but straw filled, and my litter has twigs. Which is the chicken equivalent to offering unwanted guests the couch with the bad springs and the bathroom with the scratchy toilet paper. ;)

That's pretty much what happened when I cleaned out the coop and only put an inch of bedding back. Cushy nest beat an inch of shavings instead of 8" of mixed shavings, pine straw, grass clippings, and straw.

I had one hen who was a determined floor layer when she was young. I ended up taking all but an inch or so of bedding out until she decided that the nests were more comfy.
Oh shit! I added more bedding! My thinking was….(i have zero poop holder); cleaner and more comfy, but…..i like your thinking! Its our first time over here and we’re tryin’ out best! I should post a pic of what i got goin’ on. 🐓❤️

Dont judge me, but, heres some pics. I put the basket b/c they haven't gone in egg hutches since i opened them about 4 weeks ago and i wanted them to have another option. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Seems one of them did actually make a little nest in the egg hutch tho. Another has seemed to made a little nest in the corner in FRONT of egg hutch on the floor. Any ideas??

Oh rosemary! I’ve been bending over backwards for them a little too much maybe! Like, they have a super safe awesome coop with built in egg hatches! Go lay an egg already girls!!!!🐓❤️

:)

I wonder if maybe they can't easily get in past the curtains?

I don't use curtains so I don't know how hens react to them.
