Reliable Broody Breeds

our mixed banties are broody but the best mom is an ee bantumxserama(??). she will refuse to budge if she gets 3 or more eggs. she raises anything but is responsible for probably 200 of her own offspring in the last ten years. she will hatch a dozen and only loose chicks to preditors. she is a pain in the feed bill if you can't get rid of all that she produces. last chickens that went to the auction, several went still setting on their eggs for 20$$.

The best broodys I think are phoenix and they are great moms. I tell the kids when the hens have chicks stay away from them because they are like devil hens protecting their chicks. To get them to go broody all i have to do is leave eggs in the nest for few days and I usually have one wanting to sit.

I really like to use them for shipped eggs, because I think the embroy has a hard time coming through the mail so the best way to hatch it with the least stress is the way mother nature intended.

I try to get each hen to hatch out at least two broods of chicks before i let her have some chicks to raise. I guess I am a softy. I think everyone should be a mom.

Thank you for your suggestions for Broodies.

I still would like to know if these breeds are broody:
Norwegian Jaerhons ?
Cream Brabanters ?
Spitzhaubens - probably not

I'm thinking of these 3 breeds for laying hens
I like their color patterns, and I prefer my hens to be more wild than tame.

I'm still getting some of the breeds in my first post - might be getting a few Cochins for these 3 breeds above - if they aren't broody breeds.
I only want a few since my children are almost out of the nest themselves

I already know the breeds of banties I want.

My games go broody at the drop of a hat. VERY good mommy's too.Even my roo takes care of the babies, usually longer than the hen!

My roosters are the same, one of them stole the chicks and sat on them at night and everything, the hen gave up and went back to setting it was hilarious.

My chicks that were hatched by a broody pile under my brahma roo at night. They are past the age where they are taken care of by their mum (who I think is broody again) so they are a little confused.
