REMEMBER!!!! A frozen/cold bird....

Thank you all very much. This information really helps the new people like myself. I have been going out today every few hours to feel my chicks feet to make sure they are warm. I've put them all inside early today. The coop in running 30 degrees, but under the lights I have, it is running 50 degrees. They are pretty much hugging together also. I also keep their water by the light so it does not freeze. I hope everyone stays warm, it is COLD in St. Louis!

thank you for posting, it's the same with baby bunnies, too. I'm getting too old for shocks like this! I picked up baby ducks and chicks at the hatchery this morning, and put the ducks and chicks together (temporary.)and went off to buy a light for the second brooder. I set it up, and wanted it to warm up before I put the chicks in the other brooder. so then I got busy and decided to put separate the ducks and chicks around lunchtime..I found 3 chicks that looked dead, soaked, and another one was wet all but her head! (and I only picked up 6 chicks & 4 ducks) so, I did what I do for baby bunnies, set the hairdryer on low, and dried them off. I also changed the bedding for the ducks, too.anyway, they all seem fine, now. fingers crossed I really want these little guys to make it. I love the fresh brown eggs I get from them!

So we didn't know this. Our poor chickens got frozen in snow for 3 weeks. Their coop had a breach in the blizzard and they were completely covered in snow and ice. It just melted from 3 weeks ago and the chickens came back to life.

(I'm really sorry about this but I'm so mad I really wanted this bird to live but I killed it with doing this)

I THINK I KILLED MINE THANKS FOR TELLING ME YOU CANT USE A ******* TEFLON DRYER!!

My Buff Sussex hatched a single chick which last night looked robust and fine. When I checked first thing this morning it had become separated from the nest and was cold and stiff and dead. I cupped it in my hands and breathed on it (keeping its lifeless little mouth open to the fresh air) and after 10 mins or so it showed signs of life. A clear turning point was dunking its beak into its drinking water when it shook its little head. We eventually got some water down its throat and a little piece of wet cat food and put it back with mom who by now looked like she had lost interest in it, but - after some prompting - gave it a couple of prods with her beat then settled down to brood it. A few hours later it is looking 100% healthy.

I live in MT and it is currently nine degrees out. I went to feed and water my chickens yesterday and one was dead, or i thought t was dead, now it is definately dead. I went out otday and found another, except i realized she was not dead as her leg was twitching. She also has a big bloody spot on her back end near her tail feathers where all of them are missing, i think she is hypothermic but i am not sure if there are other problems goiing on aswell. please erply with thoughts concerns or ideas thanks

Yes I warmed her up and let her sty inside overnight and in the morning she went back to her coop with the rest and is now fine. Her wound was mainly superficial, like her feather were plucked out. Thanks for replying lol
