Duh ... it's a box with ice in it!
That's very advanced. THIS is what they had here, in the "olden days" (not that far back, either)

My "nostalgia" attacks come mostly when I suddenly realise that something that was common has disappeared.

Can-openers. You rarely need one. I had an electric one which I used for the pet food, but now they mostly have those ring-pull ones.

Telephone boxes/public telephones. They've pretty much all gone. Everyone has mobile/cell phones.

Mail post boxes. They've taken most of them away. To post a letter, you have to go to the post office.

That's when I start feeling old.

On the other hand, a lot of what disappeared has made a comeback. Everyone used to have chooks, compost, rainwater tanks. They all disappeared and now everyone is getting them again. Vinyl records - trendy. "Old lady" shopping bags and trolleys so you don't have to get plastic bags at the shops.

I am a kid myself but for some strange reason I was always disgusted by my generation. I love the old music where they used to put their heart and soul into each word. Everyone worked hard! Children had to make do with what they had and still had fun with it! Cars were all unique and special in their own way, made by real people rather than being mass produced by machinery! But now... Figget spinners, dabbing, pokemon go, also, would it really kill you to spell out a whole word? Seriously, I am dissapointed. I have also found that many recent tv shows are mindless and stupid, and in return everyone around me is mindless and lazy. I can rant on even more but probably shouldn't. My mother has always told me I was a 40 year old in a child's body even when I was a toddler, and I am thankful that that is the way I am!

I recently shared this in another thread but it fits here as well. My nephew, who is 18, spent his summer a year ago at my uncle's home - which is a small cow/calf operation in a "town" of 36 people in the middle of nowhere in Idaho. While there he had his first encounter with a rattle snake and, after all was said and done, just "had" to share the tale with his mother. He ran back to the house and called her - the first thing he said when she answered the phone was, "Wow, mom, it takes a LONG time to dial your number on this phone" (my uncle still has the same rotary dial phone on the wall in his kitchen that was there when *I* was a little kid - my sister's phone number is heavy on 8's and 0's). So, he told her about his exciting adventure and at the end my sister says, "That's great, son, but this is long distance so you're running up your uncle's phone bill" -- and nephew says, "What's long distance?" ----- oh, a child of the cell phone era who came of age after the time of waiting until after 9 o'clock to call people...........

I wish my son would cut back on video and card games and get on with life. He just works at his job and plays the rest of the time.

Yes, I agree on that. This is a time of laziness. People never seem to go out into the world and enjoy what's around them, they prefer to sit in front of a screen. I think life should be full of adventure, hard work, and purpose! Though that doesn't seem to be the case in this time.

Here in the states phone booths have disappeared, but we still have mailboxes on a few corners. Can openers are a half and half ... pet Food is mostly all pull rings, but needing a can opener is still a thing for tuna, canned vegetables, etc.

Yes! The meaningful poetry the rock and roll from yesteryear!

"Be bop a Lula, she's my baby. Be bop a Lula, I don't mean maybe"

Naturally, I'm being cheeky ;) I love music of many styles and ages :D

I think of the rise of 'zombies' in popular films and television right now ... it has seeped into the popular collective unconscious, which is often an indicator of something going on in mass society. What were missing by the subconscious message is that we're already in a 'zombie apocalypse' and most of us are the zombies!
