Removed a Hen from the Coop

Red didn't go behind the curtain so I pushed her over and dropped the curtain. After a bit she hopped down and got in between two and started to peck at them. I moved her back behind the curtain and she stayed the night there. Dunno, still need to watch and see. The rest do some squabbling but don't try and clear the roost of chickens. Yesterday someone sucker pecked her and she had a few drops of blood on her comb and head. Happened so fast didn't see the perpetrator. When I sat down at 4pm with them Henry hopped up on one leg and Red hopped on the other and promptly put her head under her wing and took a nap.

Sucker pecked! Lol! She'll eventually understand the curtain spot is hers and get up there and stay by herself. The only thing is she'll start being bossy about her spot, better than chasing everyone off the roost though. :)

Yes, keep an eye on any loosely woven cloth. I use naugahyde, a plastic coated canvas, and also scraps of old plastic tarp with edges taped so it doesn't fray. Chickens will find any loose thread and soon will have the cloth dismantled, risking becoming entangled in it.

I used pinking shears on the nest box curtains so no loose threads...

Tonight was the magic night, Red went into her private roost behind the curtain and the coop is so much quieter now. Every night up to now I've had to move her over, I'm so glad she figured that out.

:thumbsup yeah!!!

Probably 8 out of 10 times she's going to go to roost where she should no problem. She's a bossy hen though, so some nights you're going to have to move her, she's just giving you something to do.:)
Well last night I had to move her over but she didn't squabble at all just stayed still while I moved her. Maybe she likes the chicken ride at sunset...
