Rent a peacock.....

years ago..way before i had any chickens, my oldest was in kindgergarten and they were having a farm day..i had the bright idea of asking my mother in law if i could borrow a chick to take up to the school..she brings me a rooster! i was scared to death of the thing!
the best part came when i tried to attach this hot pink dog leash to the poor creature..i figured that he could be "leashed trained"...needless to say, he freaked and ran off down the road..a busy road..a man stopped his car and helped me capture him and we put him in a trash bag because by that time he was loosing it and i was even more afraid. i ended up getting to the school after it was let out, with a partially ripped open, squawking trash bag!

You have to admit that a herd of flying peacocks would make for an impressive party. At least it'd be a party that everyone would talk about for years after.
"Watch out! Incoming!!!!"

I must say the last time I went to Peachicks house to pick up a couple of chickens, just as I arrived, one of the peacocks took flight from the top of a tree. It was beautiful. She has some really beautiful birds.

I knew peacocks could fly but I didn't realize how good till I went to pick up some hens a guy was selling since he had to many. As soon as I got out of the truck it sounded like I was at a zoo with a bunch of howler monkeys making noises all over the place. There were so many all over the yard I couldn't believe someone would own so many. My father-in-law loves to talk and so did the guy we bought them from. By the time we left they were flying up into a large tree and I didn't think they could make it especially the males. Seems like those long tail feathers would of gotten in the way but it didn't.
Reminds me of a story my father-in-law was telling me. He let someone borrow one of his camels during Christmas time one year to have near the manger down the road. The camel freaked out and I think took off and they had to catch it. A freaked out camel is scary to be around. Even if they aren't freaked out and you're in a pen with them and they are around on all sides is scary. Don't know if you'd get stepped on cause they don't care if you're there or not. I won't even feed them grain in the pen unless they are down the field so I have enough time to run out cause they will run for grain. There was another time that our youngest adult had a wire around her leg and my father-in-law didn't plan it out to good and waited for her to start eating grain out of the bucket and my husband was telling him a good plan and his dad ran up with a rope and just threw it over her neck and she freaked out and ran about 50 feet with him being dragged while trying to run beside her, spun in circles with him being swung around, and then finally tripped and was yelling for someone to get on her. Well it happened so fast that he didn't realize how far out he was from us and he had her by the head and she was trying to bite but got up. We did finally get the rope around her good and ran around a tree to play tug of war and got it off. I wish I had a video camera for that.

I once had a music minister from a neighboring (and very large) church call and ask about using one of my horses for their Christmas production. My Misha would have been perfect for such a thing, as his temperament is ideal, and he's completely unflappable. Also, it was a sister church, so I was feeling charitable.

As the conversation went on, the fellow asked me about the likelihood of the horse pooping over the course of a couple of hours. I said, well, yeah, horses are pretty much constantly pooping--that's kinda how they're designed.

There was a brief silence, and then the question: "Isn't there some way of...sort of...humanely...stopping him up?"

Before I could stop myself, I asked, "Like what--with a giant CORK?"

Took me the rest of the day to get over that conversation. Misha did NOT participate in the Christmas play.

LOL everyone. Thanks for your stories. When the girl was about to hang up she quickly asked me if I knew anyone with a zebra....

After I hung up I was thinking if I clipped both wings on my one black shoulder male and starved him for 2 days. I could probably get him to stay in her yard with me, as long as I kept feeding him...... he follows me around like a puppy anyway. He is the boy in that photo. Either way, its not worth the bother.

Off on a road trip today to pick up some fancy pigeons..... as if i NEED more birds.
