Ours went in the pond too. That's what we really got them for anyway. We were originally putting koi fish in there but they were really hard to maintain for some reason.
I feel like they wouldn't mind that much. I remember when I went to a retile expo they had a baby gator for $150 and I wanted it so bad but I don't think that would have flied with admin

I have several types of snakes, crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, vieillardi geckos, dogs, mice, rats, birbs, etc
and tarantulas, spiders, and cockroaches
