Have ya got the bator up & running at desired temp & starting humidity setting? Have you practice added larger water container to make sure you can up the humidity quickly for lock-down? Then you're all set!!

If these are shipped eggs, remember if only half hatch...you're lucky! Don't blame the bator...it's the shipping.

I'm all set! Much thanks to your help and advises! No eggs today afterall.. we got some serious snow so we'll see how many eggs will make it.
So, last question... for the first 18 day skeep humidity around 50% and the last three days up to 65%?

Awesome with a second bator! You got a big production going on! How many chickens do you have?

Those temp & humidity levels should work just fine for you Jonny!

I have about 40 silkies & showgirls, a small crew of 5 mixed bantams who keep us in eating eggs, & about 500 quail....DH has a homemade bator of his own just for the quail.

My silkies & SGs are young & just started laying a few months ago. I rehomed all my other chickens to focus on breeding them...I love my silkies & SGs!

Went to order another reptipro last night....I see that with 2 turners, the 2nd turner would sit on the bottom where I normally put my water container & where there's that temp difference...hmmm. Then I see the Exo Terra, which is pretty much the same as the reptipro....all the same features. You would have to hand turn, which I do now anyway BUT it has 2 shelves which you could put close together for getting temps close for both shelves & still have the bottom free for water container. Double the amount of eggs I hatch now. It's also $100 less. Hmmmm....decisions....

Finally! The eggs are here and going in tonight

WOW, you sure have a lot of birds! Amazing..! Where do you keep the quail?

I just looked at the Exo Terra. It looks pretty much the same to me, and it comes with two shelves. That's great, and 100 bucks less??? GO FOR IT!

....I'll let you know how it goes cause I'll have eggs to put in as soon as it gets here & I get it going!

We have the quail in their own section....a 18' x 20' shed (metal lower wall, wire upper wall, & metal roof)...each variety is caged in groups. Chickens are in their own condo away from the quail. I tend to stay out of the quail house unless I'm needed...DH EATS the extra males!

Good for you. I'm exciting to hear if there are any differences between the reptipro and the new model you got.
I must tell you, I'm feeling quite frustrated with my incubation at the moment. The eggs on the shelf are doing great, perfect temperature ,but the bottom ones I think are too cold. I checked with a temperature gun, and there's like a 5 degree difference between the top eggs and the bottom eggs. I put the eggs on a cotton cloth so that might help, but I'm not sure if they are going to hatch at all. The temp gun reads 95/96 degrees off the bottom eggs. Is this too cold, or will it just take a little bit longer for them to hatch? Any experience on that?

It seems that the eggs closer to the fan at the bottom are the coldest. There's a lot of draft back there.. Do I need the fan on you think??

I bought one for my hubby to use with his quail eggs. He did pretty good with it. I have actually been thinking about selling mine now because I bought 2 cabinet size to keep up with our hatch numbers.I also hatched a setting of chicken eggs a few weeks ago in it.I used the tray that came with it and I also made an extra tray for it . It did pretty good for the eggs on trays, but I had some eggs on the bottom that didn't hatch out. As far as the holes in the one tray, when it came down to time for hatching I simply put the eggs on the bottom. I love the digital controls and the interior lighting. And with the large window, you just turn on the light and check your eggs.
