Reptipro 5000 Incubator

Check with the LLLReptile guy; I know he tore a couple apart. He may have pictures.

In terms of a "redesign," unless ReptiPro is a fridge manufacturer it's not going to happen. He might be talking about a new fridge model coming out that they're going to use, but otherwise all he can do is add aftermarket solutions like his egg turner. So he might sell the unit with foam pieces that fit on the shelves to keep chicks from falling between the shelf and the door, or he might sell it with a fan that sits on the floor of the unit and has a plug coming out a drilled hole in the side, but he's not going to be able to radically change the unit itself.

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc284/abi21491/HPIM3009.jpg is the best picture I can find of the inside of the Princess unit. That's not a ReptiPro branded unit but they're identical. The fan in the back is for the Peltier heating/cooling unit and I believe does circulate air when it is on. There's no fresh air ventilation; I think people open and close the door a few times a day.

Big Apple Herp and Kemps Reptile sell the unit too, so they may be able to give you a schematic if they dismantled one.

Hi,
Another question ... What type of ventilation does the reptipro use? All the threads I've read about home made incubators describe air vents. I'd still like to see some interior pictures of this unit.

Joe...again, here is a link to pics of the unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/Bird-Chicken-Duck-Quail-Egg-Incubator-2-Auto-Turner-/110583003518?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bf42b97e

Pictures
on left hand top of page...you can enlarge them...one is of interior of the unit. I can't take pics of mine as I currently have eggs in it.

Sorry guys but we have been out of town for a week in the woods. No internet. Was kind of nice...

Anyways, we will be coming out with a new unit as we are in the testing phases. We have definitely taken the feedback we have received and put it all into our new design. Everyone says that we are not the manufacturer of the case of this unit and they would be correct. We import them directly from china and then put in our own fans, power supplies, and peltier units here in the united states. Seems like manufacturing to me but oh well.

As for the fan issue and the temp variation we have yet to find that it has any negative affect on hatch rates. Hens do not have thermometers or thermostats in their rear ends and eggs naturally have some temp flux in the wild. We have found that this increases vigor and hatch rates in reptiles and suspect the same in birds.

The fan in the unit only runs during heating and cooling cycles and we have found this to be advantageous due to the fact that continuously running fans tend to dry the air and thus wick moisture away from the eggs. The humidity in the unit is crucial to high hatch rates even more so than a dead accurate temp. Both can fluctuate and this is normal but we have heard your comments and are working on a unit that will give the option to run the fan continuously or only during cycles.

Well i think that may answer all the questions i read here. If not feel free to ask and I promise to answer much sooner in the future.

Thanks for all the support and constructive feedback.

Chris, I know the LLLReptile people took a ReptiPro 5000 unit and a Princess International unit completely apart and examined them inside and out and found no differences between them. The Princess unit already uses a Peltier-type heater. Can you tell us exactly what is different - and how it is better than the wholesale fridge?

Thanks for the response. I am enjoying my bator from reptipro. I look forward to the new models. Please let us know when they become available.

I have 16 eggs incubating in my Reptipro 5000 as I type this. I have one auto-turner. I have to remember to keep opening the door at least once a day for air exchange, though. However, when I candled a couple of the lighter eggs, I saw evidence of development!

Gonna have to figger out how to deal with hatching in it, though. Hmmmmm.

Gryeyes brings up a good point. I was wondering that as well how to hatch in this unit with a full set. Last time I only had 6 make it to lock down so it was no problem...just set them on the bottom. Any idea's anyone?

I have about 27 eggs in there now.. I'll say about 20 is developing WELL! You mention no air exchange.. that crossed my mind the other day.. I know you're not supposed to open the door during lock down, but is this necessary with this unit, or is there some kind of CO-exchange?

Another concern I had is when the chicks hatch.. any danger of them getting stuck in the suction fan on the bottom???

All I wanted for Christmas was an incubator. My husband and daughters bought me a Reptipro 5000. I have no experience or pre conceived notions about how one should work or which is best (other than praying for a good hatch). I do know that Chris has been wonderful on answering our calls and discussing my unit. I would recommend Reptipro just for the customer service. Cost is not always the biggest issue. I won't even shop Walmart because I get no customer service. It depends on what you value most. That is not to say the other companies are not equal on customer service. I have never dealt with them. But, Chris personally has answered our emails and calls. That means a lot to me. I will let yall know how my hatch goes. Since I am a beginner and I can't stay away from the incubator, any issues I have might not be the machine:oops: But, I will let you know what happens.

So far, I am excited and waiting to be a new "mother"

I have 23 hens and 6 rooster, 7 different breeds, eggs for my family, my in-laws and my mother, plus extra just because. So, I can play with it and learn. To quote my daughter, "I think you love those chickens more than your own kids"!

They are slowly filling my empty nest syndrome:lol:
