Republican Debate?

Sorry but the guy has guts and says it like it is, he will be a contender in a few years I think. I can see him rubbing some the wrong way though. I do like his fiscal responsibility.

I think the real election is as allways dictated by the media and financed by the special intrest groups. My guy decided not to run but I sure liked and I know I will catch H3ll for it but ............ The Donald as in Trump was my pick LOL.

I am not on board with Romney because of the whole Mormon thing and perry wears his faith like a cheap suit, The newt is not in the running, Bachman lacks the skills, Ron paul does well but is all over the map and can't connect. Huntsman is Ok as is Cain & Johnson but lack the star power............ Either way I do predict a party shift in the next election, Obama allways has talked a good game but never was able to come through and his lead from back attitude is not the American way. I really want America to NOT !! be a second class country, leading is what we do best not following. I will be at the Poll's bright and early.

Sadly, the press, both liberal and conservative, try to control the process and choices way too much.

Romney is nothing but a politician Ken Doll. He's a Rino, at best.

I have listened to Herman Cain for a few years. He's solid business man, and nothing would do my heart better than to see him give Obama the what for, in a head to head debate....It would be like Daddy taking the little boy to the woodshed.

I like Rick Perry. He's just a straight shooter, and doesn't play with political nuance. It doesn't take him 5 minutes to answer a question, which only requires a 30 second answer. He tells the truth about Social Security.....As I have said, for years, a coming generation is going to have to step up to the plate and take the hit, for the destruction which the politicians have wrought upon that dedicated fund.

Michelle Bachman is fun to have in the mix, because, well, you know, she's got those crazy eyes. LOL.

Newt Gingrich has plenty of political savy and could play the power game well, but he has stepped over the line too many times, embracing such things as global warming, which should never come into the politcal realm. We don't need wedge issues, based on whether the sun is having a cold one day and hot flashes, the next.

Most of the rest are what I would call generic politicians....Good looking, nice hair, and lots of talking in circles, to avoid an actual position, for which you might need to give account for, in the future.

I am on the Rick Perry boat right now. In the end I just want someone who can beat Obama. I am ready for someone new, and hopefully for the better. I think Perry has done a decent job with Texas. No one is going to be 100% perfect.

You left out Dr. Ron Paul - his voting record has been FLAWLESS, and he doesn't make promises that he can't keep. He's the ideal Republican, if their rhetoric is to be believed. The man certainly doesn't talk in circles, and his position is rock-solid.

Like I said before, though, look who is constantly censored by the press (and now Royd, apparently.

I'm joking, BTW.) and not given anywhere near the time given to joke-candidate Romney (the definition of RINO).

My primary is not until late May so I'll wait until things sort themselves out before I do too much research on the individuals. Most should have fallen by the wayside by then, making the research easier. After once having a choice of voting for Edwin (the Crook) Edwards and David (the Sheet Man) Duke for governor, I'll not commit to never voting for or against any individual until I see who they are running against. Politics sometimes give you some strange choices.

My criteria is a bit different than several others on here. I understand the candidates have to pander to the extremes in their party during the primary to get the nomination while trying to not paint themselves into too tight a corner that they have no hope in the general election, so I don't pay a lot of attention to what they actually say. It's either political blather or they are putting themselves into a position where they cannot win. It's not easy being a politician. There is definitely a craft to doing it successfully. But sometimes it is fun to see how they try to talk themselves out of trouble.

Once they are elected and are actually faced with responsibility for the consequences of what they do, many (but not all) realize how ridiculous those positions are in real life and will do what they see as the right thing. I think most of them understand how ridiculous some of those positions are now but they have to get the nomination. I do believe it is very informative to see what they have actually done in the past when in those positions as opposed to what they say. And I am really worried about someone who has not been in those positions to see what they would really do as opposed to what they say. I don't want someone who stands so rigid on principle that they get a hernia if they burp, but instead prefer those that have the strength of character to do the right thing, which may include changing their position on a subject if the facts of the case show that is the right thing to do. It may be political suicide, but I believe those are the ones that actually put their country, state, or whatever first as opposed to taking the easy way out.

Since they are the front-runners, I'll use Rick and Mitt. I feel there is some hope for each. Rick takes a very strong position, but his actions on the vaccinations and the college for illegal kids shows that he does have a practical streak. And you have Mitt and health care.

We're still in preseason. The power rankings don't mean a whole lot until they actually play a few meaningful games. I just don't find preseason games that interesting.

I didn't watch it last night. I just hope someone wins who has a strong backbone and will do some great things for this country -- it's been a long time comin'. I don't know that I trust Romney. He just seems like all the rest of the politicians to me. I am still quite undecided. I need to do more research on Perry, Paul, and Cain. I'd be interested in Christie, if he ever decided to run.

Please tip-toe lightly on my comment. I don't want to get this thread closed, so please don't hijack my comments toward religion.

I don't understand the comment about Mitt Romney and his Mormon faith. I don't know that much about that religion except that Romney appears to have a wonderful family. I've never heard/read of any of his sons being in trouble. President Kennedy was Catholic, which was an issue at the time. One of our worst morally-bankrupt presidents was misbehaving just feet away from the Oval office. President Reagan was so respectful of the Oval office that he wouldn't even take his suit jacket off. Morality is important to me.

Religion (other than Muslim, to be honest) is not an issue with me. I'm more interested in honesty, integrity, trust, and love of country. I suppose my expectation for the president and Congress is not realistic. Politicians rarely let me down; I am usually disappointed.
