Rescue gander will he fit in?

Ducks are definitely something else! I’ve more or less figured out the way geese think but I don’t think I’ll ever understand the duck brain and why they do the things they do. My mom jokes that they’re inter dimensional beings and that they’re the way they are because they can see the other “realm” at all times. 😂

My yard doesn’t have a fence, so I do worry about predators, I or my dogs are usually around so they’re rarely ever completly alone though. If I’m gone I’ll keep one group in the dog run and the other group will be in their night pens until I’m back.

Hahahah I think that’s completely true!
Well when I got home Bruce was ok still alone :( but has all his eyeballs and feathers. Father in law did check on them anyway.
Ya if I free ranged I would be gone until about 4 so no way I would know if anything happened.
I really want to pick Bruce up but he runs like hell. Are any of yours friendly? A few chickens and my turkey like being held the ducks hate it and so do the geese....

Just beautiful pics @Phillyndilly !!

I can't hold my ducks either...the runner girl for a little while but not long, and Tom the drake no way, only long enough to give him his weekly check over, and even then he bites me the whole time 😂
The geese are a different story...they walk away from me like I'm herding them, but once I corner them I can easily pick them up and hold them for a while. They both sit perfectly still and talk to me while getting neck scratches 😍🥰

All of mine are friendly to varying levels. I either raised each of mine myself or was around them since they were goslings. Parsnip, Delphi, and Apricot I have the best relationship with. Strawberry, Darby, and Friday I don’t have any issues with. Leo was among my first geese and I didn’t know much about their behavior then so I wasn’t really hands on enough while he was growing up so he’s the only one I’ve had issues with.
He’s learned to tolerate my existence though because he’s deemed me mildly useful as the bringer of food.

I would give the new guy time to get used to you, I think any goose can be won over by bringing them treats daily, they’ll learn to see your presence as positive and look forward to being around you.
It depends on their personality if they like being picked up. My gander Thor absolutely loved being picked up and cuddled, so does my Delphi. Apricot, Parsnip and Darby like cuddles, but not being picked up. Strawberry, Friday, and Leo aren’t fans of physical contact.
If you have problems with hormonal grumpiness from the boys picking them up is the best method of reminding them of their place in the world.

Wow they are so gorgeous!!! Aw that’s so sweet I always think maybe I’m touching them wrong. I did corner and pick up Bruce. I feel bad because he was so afraid when I was catching him that’s the part I don’t like. He calmed down and I sat with him on my lap and pet his neck. He did stay on my lap without holding him for at least 5 minutes so that was good he was shaky at first but calmed down I wonder if I should keep doing it?

I raised Philip from a gosling maybe I also wasn’t hands on enough with him although I feel like I did pick him up a lot. He doesn’t like to be held I never tried sitting with him on my lap he’s good though I don’t have problems with him.
I kind of think Luce is a jerk and we only pick him up when he’s being bad so that’s our fault. I picked him up after he bit on to Bruce’s back today.
How do you snuggle them without picking them up they just sit next to you?
Idk I always feel bad because no one wants to be pet and I’m not really sure of the best method maybe I don’t give them enough treats.
I will post some more pictures tomorrow but here’s Bruce sitting on my lap.

@Phillyndilly What a sweet boy!
You're doing fine with your geese, who lets themselves be picked up has almost everything to do with personality and not everyone enjoys being held, most of mine did when they were little but not anymore, I think they grow out of it, the exception with mine was Thor and now Delphi.
Cuddles for my geese are chest rubs, thigh rubs, and under the wing rubs, they’ll come up to me if they want cuddles but it’s when they feel like it and who’s okay with it, for example Friday likes me pretty well, but she does not like being touched under any circumstance if she can help it. Darby loves cuddles normally, but he’s hormonal and acting like a little jerk at the moment. Parsnip, Delphi, and Apricot come up to me and let me pet them while they chew on my shoes or clothes, Delphi is just extra cuddly, so yeah, it really depends on them and what they’re okay with.
Bruce just needs time to adjust, spend time with him and he’ll let you know what he’s comfortable with. The fact that he’ll already sit on your lap is a good sign.

Thank you I always hope I’m doing things right lol.
I feel so bad though my heart breaks for Bruce this morning I’ve had him out with Philip and the two girls first so he could stretch his wings and make noise without getting attacked or chased away and he was so happy. I eventually had to let Luce out and of course he started acting like a jerk.
I really wanted to leave Luce inside with his gf but I still feel bad even though he’s mean.
I’m wondering if a good solution would be to get a female goose for Bruce we posted on farm swap if anyone has a lone girl.

@Goosebaby @DiYMama540 sorry to keep asking you guys questions lol but just one more I was wondering. We got a response on farmswap 2 female buff geese. I was wondering if there’s a rhyme or reason to their bonding or usually singles just bond with whoever is free. If we got both girls I would be hoping Philip would bond to one and Bruce to one. Or are the two females bonded already? Its not always sex related is it? I know you said you’ve had two males who bonded. Even if the two girls just hang with Bruce that’s ok. Phil is already bonded to the ducks. I would like him to find a nice lady though lol.
