Rescued a SICK CHICK... I am such a (stupid!) softie. (PICS added)

Your story makes me feel like I should go to my local feed store and rescue sad little homeless chicks. I don't even want to think about what would have happened to him/her.

I know you're not supposed to get emotionally attached to farm animals, but I have to tell you, it breaks my heart to hear stories like this. And its tougher when its one of your own and they just don't make it.

Hi everyone,
So nice of you all to ask about the little one!!!

I broke down this morning and put her in with the others. She was just doing so well, I felt that she probably wasn't actually sick with anything contagious, and plus the others had probably already been exposed.

She's so much happier now! Instead of standing in one spot or frantically trying to get through the plastic wall to the other chicks, she's now kicking up her heels and running around with them! I watched closely and no one is bullying her, and she holds her own at the feeder, too. What a little trooper!!

I had told Olivia that we couln't name her 2 days ago, as I didn't think she'd make it, but I think now we'll start calling her Charlotte.

Check out how tiny she is compared to the other girls 5 days younger than her (especially compared to my monster Welsummers!):

Seachick, is she going to be part of your flock, or are you thinking of eventually finding another home for her?

PS: Yes, monster cuteness factor. Great photos. Love the closeups that are so in focus that you see every feather and eyeball glint.

Thanks guys, she is definitely wicked cute!

Buff: We can only keep 2 of these 6 chicks, so at some point we'll have a hard decision to make!! And we will be looking for homes for the other 4, so if anyone is interested let us know!

When we took our son to pick out our chicks from the feed store. There was one with a neck that was kind of messed up. She couldn't hold up her head properly.

Of course we brough her home and named her twister.

Not having a clue on chickens. I gave her some honey water to get her to drink and fed her mealies and took turns with my husband holding her.

LOL now we can barely tell her from the others except she' a bit smaller.

I really hope you chick get better and no your not stupid you're great!!
