Last week I got two ducklings from a neighbor that didn’t want them anymore. The kid had convinced their mom to let them get a couple of ducklings just to make their dad mad and now were trying to get rid of them. One I think is a fawn and white Indian runner and the other maybe a khaki Campbell? The kid was mad because the dad made her clean out the cage 3 times and they had only had them a couple weeks, so I’m assuming the conditions they were in weren’t the best.

There seems to be something wrong with the runner, it’s shivering a lot and it’s missing some feathers on its head, seems very weak and can’t chirp very loud at all like the khaki.

Thank you so much for rescuing them from these.... idiots! Honestly, why do people do stuff like this?!?

Considering everything you said, they were probably being fed bread... A proper diet with lots of niacin will hopefully get that little runner perked back up.

Have you checked for lice or other parasites?

Where are you keeping them and what are you feeding them? The ducklings might not seem healthy if they weren't being fed the right food, and they're shivering because they're cold. Make sure they're getting fed flock raiser with Niacin added, plenty of fresh/warm water, clean bedding, a large place to sleep and walk, and a heating source. ( EX: Heating lamp ) The one is a Fawn Runner and the other is a Rouen.

They gave me an opened 35 pound bag of starter/grower feed that they had been using. As soon as I got them, I put some brewers yeast in the water along with some dried oregano, save-a-chick probiotics and electrolytes.

No I haven’t checked for that yet

Well, at least they weren't feeding them junk, but that unfortunately is meant for chicks so probably not enough niacin. If you're able to get some Durvet vitamin B complex, that would really help, as well as feed formulated for ducklings. The brewer's yeast should be put on the food, as they waste way too much water so you don't know how much they're getting.

I am keeping them in our shed/barn in what channel with a hot water bottle and straw. The Rouen acts fine, it’s only the runner that is shivering. I have younger birds in the same shed in different cages and they’re not shivering either

I feed my adult ducks and chickens the layer feed from the same brand

Put the brewers yeast on the feed 1 tbs to 1 cup feed
If these babies were not cared for it’s possibly there could have been wet feed leading to mould and baby msg have a bacterial infection
Long story short my duck sitter didn’t know I clean the drip tray a few times a day
She only did feed and water bowls
That left mouldy feed and my little duckling must have eaten some
We got home from our holiday and immediately I knew he was sick. I could hardly hear him peeping and usually he was very loud
Toon him to the vet and he had a slight fever too
We got antibiotics and cleaned him right up
If they were angry about cleaning a cage a few times in 2 weeks I would hate to see what they were living like
I Clean my brooder 3 times a day
The missing head feathers maybe to close to the heat plate ?
Or heat lamp
Thanks for taking them in

Definitely no Rouens. The yellow one with the stripe on the head looks like a Golden 300 or possibly a Silver Appleyard. The white one is probably a Pekin, or white layer. The build looks Pekin though.
Neither of them look like Runners either.
