She did not fall off a truck she wandered into her yard from the neighbors barn. Which means that she got out like I know my chickens have done before and came from the neighbors to her. The whole fell off a truck was from a rude person that interupted her post.

Anyways Lisa I think that what you are doing right now is fine make sure that you restrict her feed but dont restrict her water. Make sure she has enough time to run around outside to get her exercise and to loose some weight. Also I would recommend that you at least contact your neighbor and say that you found one of their birds and was wondering if you could keep it and offer compensation. I do hear that meat birds lay HUGE eggs.

Forgot to add that you should wait til she is fully feathered until you put her outside at night and check her to make sure she isnt too cold at that point

Agreed.
Everyone should calm down on this one. The bird fell off the truck, and at that point, it may have been more ethical to say....hey, this fell off the truck, do you want it back, or mind if I keep it?

But at this point, come on now, it's a single chick that they cannot take back due to biosecurity, it's worth is zilch, she did not steal it from the truck, it was LOST, and I'm assuming the OP has better things to do than be called a thief by people on a chicken forum.

I could see if she broke in and snatched the bird, but that isn't what happened. Situational awareness guys. It may have been MORE RIGHT to bring it to their attention when it happened, but it certainly wasn't theft.

You know, whether I fully agree with these statements is irrelevant; the OP was asking about when to put it out at night. Bet next time she does not make the mistake of mentioning where it came from. Wouldn't surprise me if the OP asks the mods to close the thread.

Agree to late to return, also wouldn't call her a theif...but hope next time she would at least try to return it. or anyone else that find any would return one rather than keeping someone else property.

This dayold didn't fall off a truck =dead

This was NOT a chicken that fell from a truck.........along a road.

I hear ya'. Thanks. I know the OP's situation but thought somebody was inferring that even when a bird falls from a truck it should be returned or it's theft. If I misunderstood, I'm very glad that's not what they meant.

so when your chickens got out did someone return them? or did they just steal them like the OP?

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE, CHILLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nowhere in this question does it ask if she can keep the bird or not, this person just wants to know if the bird is old enough and ready to go outside. NOW, if the bird came to your property, or fell off a truck, JUST KEEP IT, If it wanderd to your property or fell off a truck, then it just comes to show what wonderful responsable owners that bird had.

No chance at all that a gate didn't get closed properly, or there was an accident that knocked over a fence or such. Just horrible irresponsable owners hua? So I guess when a drunk driver went through a fence up the road and a horse walked into my yard I should of kept it. Or when a stray dog tore into my neighbours chicken coop and half his birds flew over my fence I should have kept them. Stuff happens. That doesn't mean the animals are free for the taking.

I got them back in before my neighbors noticed they were in their yard.

Am I the only one who notices that the OP hasn't even written back yet? Maybe its because ya'll are ignoring what she was trying to ask and turning it into you own conversation......
