I rescued a peacock on the side of the road, a family member was driving past public hunting property on their way home and saw it there in the evening.
There were no houses around, and I had posted around to see if it belong to anyone, no one has stepped forward yet in the area's missing pet pages. I've worked through some pretty rough skin injuries from predator attacks in the past with my turkeys and other poultry but I need help with this asap I think.
I was drying the peahen off because it had rained and I was checking over her and she had a chunk of muscle with a bit of tendon dangling from her shoulder, it had dried and looked to be a day or two old, the wound itself had some dried blood around it. I consulted with a farm friend who suggested I gently snip it off as the shoulder muscle would eventually start to rot, and there was no way I could see it going back in...
I did not blu-kote it yet but the area is getting a bit green and it's only been a few days, I rinsed it with vetrycin and used neosporin and was trying to calm her down and get some fluids in her with electrolytes.
Should I rinse with betadine instead? Do I need to give her an injectable or oral antibiotic? any advice is appreciated!!
I am kind of nervous about this as it was a tendon. I'll try to get a better picture today as I figure out the best course of action, it's near her shoulder.
This photo is from the first day.
