This is Ruby ........ she is a hatchery RIR. Wonderful personality! She's a big girl..... I would say twice the size of Hope.

hmmmmm now I really don't know! she does have black on the last feathers of her wings and looks to be really really dark almost black on her neck feathers. i will have to get some close up shots. She is way smaller than your RIR. Anyone have a bantam RIR here?

She does have the feather markings like yours when I look at the photo close up.

I'd say Hope is definitely petite for a RIR. But I think her being with out feathers and probably malnourished from "who knows when" might be whats got her looking small. It will be interesting to see how she sizes up after she feathers out and gets proper nutrition.

My hatchery RIR seems more petite than some of my other heavy birds, just in general, compared to orpingtons, rocks, etc...

She was out ALL DAY with the rest of the girls in the pen today. she played with the big girls all day!!!!!! her coat was not on when I got home from work today, but she was fine, all her new feathers still in tact and no blood or injuries. I put her coat back on and put her to bed one more time. What am I going to do when she can sleep with the big girls and no longer needs me to tuck her in??????

when that happens you just go and rescue another hen and make her pj's and tuck her in at night. Great Job.
