"rescued' yet another one... (graphic pictures)

I will be up all night pacing, tapping my toes, drumming my fingers, biting my nails until the sun comes up. I let Hope stay with the rest of the fluffy butts tonight. Cross our fingers. I want to go out and check on her so bad. I have twice already and its not even midnight .

well, I was up an hour early for work this am to check on my little unfluffy girl. She seemed ok to me. The rest of the butts and 'Bird were outside in the rain messing around as expected. Hope did loose her coat somewhere in the night or this am. I put it back on her and she clucked her snotty little stuck up cluck at me, so all must be ok! I let her with the rest on Sat. and Sun. and she did fine. I was worried she wouldnt come in if she was cold or miserable. That she wouldnt come inside to her heat lamp if needed, but nope, not Hope. I found her coat outside on Sat. afternoon and she was inside perched under the lamp, so she is a smart cookie! That was my biggest fear, that she would get stuck outside in the cold and rain. I need to come up with something better for a coat. I have gone through a yard of brown felt, and just have not been able to come up with anything that suits her!

She did fine. Just fine. I left her out with them again last night as well. She is doing great with the rest. I just hope Hope is warm enough. that's my only fear. Anyone know if the flannel coat I made her to cover her back will hinder the feathers growing in?

Being a little cold may help encourage feathers to grow.

glad you were able to help the chicken... sounds like she's a lucky bird!

how cold is too cold? I wondered if it might help them grow out if it was a little cool, but how cool? She is in a 8 X 10 coop insulated and all the bells and whistles with 9 others. She has access to everything from a deep pine shaving box to snuggle in to a carpeted padded roost in open air, to 4 nest wooden nest boxes, to the open pop door to go outside as she wants, to a heat lamp on whenever she wants it. The coop is staying from 50 degrees this am to 60 in the sunshine during sunny times. She does seem smart enough to not go outside if its cold. I have yet to see her out there really at all. Only once or twice and the rest of the time she's inside. but i have seen her huddled on the roost as well and I know she was chilly.
