Meeker, Ok 20+chicken years
Just throwing this out there....had the thought and need to search for information to see if it could be viable. Thinking outside the box.
Wondering if a wood burning tool would work?

Chickens may not handle the stress of a procedure, but would it be any more stressful than caponizing?

We used to dehorn our calves until we started using a polled bull.
Our friends with goats, debud them so their horns don't grow by burning off the bud.

Currently I keep spurs in check by vigilant grooming on them. I don't have any injured hens.
But we have friends who must use aprons on their hens or have had to treat injured hens.
