Researching Chicken Breeds (Couple Odd Questions??)

Thanks to everybody for your feedback. I really got the idea about what to buy and what not... Anyway's I want to stick with Layers and Meat birds. Perhaps someday, I will have the time and luxury to delve into the rare birds. For now I am trying to start a small home farm, on about 1/2 an acre land and I suspect this will give me plenty to do.
