Respect vs disrespect

Good for you Urban! I have ended up keeping birds rather than sell them ......because instinct said NO...they wont look after them.....

Ok, now you've gone from a legitimate complaint to stereotyping. I'm from a "broken home" and I live in a manufactured house (not a trailer, but still). And I can tell you for a FACT that education does not equal respect for others.

I am so "worried" about being A) late B) having good manners that I am always at least 15 minutes early wherever I am going - if not earlier,

I don't mind waiting.

My sister is always at least a half hour late for everything. It drives me nuts.

I don't mind if folks call and say they can't make it - things come up, life happens - but not to call or show - that's inexcusable (unless they're lying by the side of the road bleeding

I am taking Urban's comments as being ticked and perhaps not thinking before posting

I agree, broken home/ lack of education does not equal lack of manners or common sense. But folks say things off the cuff when they are angry.

I never consider anything sold until I see the people driving out of my driveway with it.. they are the same way with machinery, chickens, furniture,
you name it.. If I plan on going somewhere, now, I set a time..

No show, I am gone.. You had better not be late.. sorry..

Sorry about that, I am a bit irritated by the whole situation. Let me explain a bit better.

When I say lack of education I was meaning understanding the difference between what's right and respectful, and what is disrespectful. Lack of education in manners so to speak....not actual schooling. They weren't 'taught' or 'educated' by example or actual teaching how to treat others.

When I mentioned broken home I was thinking the family that's always fighting....rich or poor I find a family or couple can be dysfunctional. Ha! My own family included sometimes....ok, maybe a lot of the time!

I'm not speaking entirely from lack of experience either. I find certain character traits such as showing respect or lack thereof come from certain backgrounds and I don't mean monetary, or actual grade schooling....more an attitude. It's hard to explain.

Phew....I try not come come off as a complete turd, but sometimes I get the better of my own best efforts!

The thing is I just don't get people sometimes. Doing something like not show up when I arranged to pick something up is so far outside of my own thought processes that I have a hard time imagining why others would do it. If I say I'm going to do something I darn well do it and if something comes up I contact people to let them know. It's such a simple thing yet seems to difficult for some people to show even the smallest vintages of respect for the others around them. I'm old enough to know better, but it still addles my brain.
