On Saturday we brought home our first three chickens. On Sunday we saw one sneezing, now a few days later my smallest has a runny nose (clear mucous and not always running), bubbles in her eyes, isn't eating very much, is sleeping a lot, her coloring is very pale, and she is breathing with her mouth open.

Last night I went to Tractor Supply to get antibiotics and they were out. They said it was probably just due to allergies (Oklahoma is LADEN with allergens). I came away with VetRX and electrolytes. We dosed the whole flock with VetRX. I added electrolytes and VetRX to their water. This morning she seemed okay. When I came home from work she was sluggish and not eating.

I have coated her in more VetRX and we're on the phone with local suppliers trying to locate antibiotics right now. We do happen to have some leftover amoxicillin from my daughter's last case of strep this previous week. Would this be an option for her until we can locate some tetracycline? Do we put it in her water? Do we risk putting it down her throat?

She's a pretty small Barred Cochin baby (our best guess is 12 weeks) we picked her out of pretty rancid conditions at a local auction. Hoping we can save her!

From what I've read on here, don't force feed her any meds unless you are totally sure you know what you are doing. I would think dose is important, too. Is she inna secure, warm location where you can keep an eye on her?

It's a scary thought to dose her! Would love to avoid that.

Yes, she is quarantined. We're keeping a close eye on her.
