Respiritory Disease?

maybe you should post more detail about the symptoms..
also..what bedding are you using?
please describe the coop situation..is it well ventilated?
has the coop been cleaned?
can you smell ammonia?
check for any signs of mold or mildew.

what all do you feed?
have the birds been wormed? if so when? and what was used?
have you checked the crops to make sure they are emptying?
feel for any lumps or grainy feeling..
in the morning before they eat the crops should feel empty or flat.

it's possible it could be a few different things..
best to check..
in the meantime..keep them protected from drafts and wet.
and get the Tylan.

try and get some poultry vitamins..

I'm sorry about your birds Henry.
Yesterday I thought maybe one of my Roos might be sick because he was holding one eye closed. I went to the feed store nearby which sells lots of chickens and always has very good advice on poultry. They sell Duramycin 10 as a broad spectrum antibiotic and also treat all their chicks that come in from the hatcheries with it as a preventative. I bought some. It's a water soluble form of Tetracycline Hydrochloride. It's inexpensive and looks like it treats both upper respiratory and GI bacterial disease.
My Roo just had an injury, he wasn't sick. But I'm glad I have it on hand in case I ever need it. Obviously, you can't eat the eggs while you are treating the birds. Anyway, this feed store sells hundreds and hundreds of chicks in the spring and summer and I figure it must be both safe and effective if they are using it.

Tylan 50 injectable acts quicker and the dose can be better controlled.
if they are sick.,.sometimes they don't drink the medicated water, or drink enough of it.

he could use some extra protein also..
such as cooked egg, or a little canned beef cat food..

I have been treating with Tylan and everyone looks great.
My coop is well ventilated and has a nice top vent.
There is no amonia smell
I have cleaned the coop once a month and add new shavings and stir them in.
I did check for mold and their seems to be none.

I feed purina Layena which is great I have also been feeding a bit of start and grow for my birds as some of them are younger.
I have not wormed my chickens
I checked each chicken individually and all the crops felt good although I did not check the dad chickens crops.

Every thing seems to have cleared up with the Tylan I have only lost one more birds to a fox attack

Thanks,
