Does anyone ever stop to wonder at how the well-being of many living things COMPLETELY depends on you, and you alone?

I am responsible for 2 humans (not including myself) 6 dogs (3 are rescues I'm trying to find homes for) two baby starlings, 12 peacocks, 2 turkeys, 2 pheasants, 7 guineas, 70 adult chickens and a hundred or so chicks of varying ages occupying multiple housing situations, 150+ eggs that are hand-turned three times a day, 3 lizards that I don't even like or want... forget about my house plants they are dying, screw the grass in the yard, and whatever landscaping thats not native are gonners.

I wanted to sleep in this morning, so I made sure that everything was set up with food and water and whatever else the night before... But I had to wake up to turn the eggs - no big deal I'll just do that and go back to sleep. Well, have to feed the starlings. THEN I'll go back to sleep. No? Put on the coffee then and and another day of juggling animals.

On that note, anyone in my neighborhood looking to give a very awesome home to a very awesome dog?

Sounds like a day in the life of an animal lover.

I left for one week and left the BF in charge. All I asked is that he kept the animals alive.

Well I came back, most were alive. Most were distraught. Some died. everything was a mess.

I guess "feed the animals while I'm gone" could have been expounded upon... He really did try though.

I boggle that DH manages as he does... working full time, 40-60hrs, plus attending school full time... while married to a nut like me, being a great dad to two kids, not to mention the three dogs, four chickens, and one fish that round out our little circus. And that doesn't even count the extended family!

I do think about it from time to time. Not only am I in charge of myself, but my two daughters, a husband, six cats, a dog, and 36 chickens (and maybe a few more if the broody hatches out any of her 8 eggs). This is why I say "No! I am responsible for enough living things, thanks!" when my kids ask for fish.
