My Golden Girl is gone.

That darn coyote, or something else took my Camilla.I'm in tears. We found a space in the chicken wire where either she was trying to tunnel out or he was digging to get in...either way my beautiful momma hen is gone. Just a few feathers on either side of the fence. I can't believe I'm this upset over a silly chicken, but I really loved that bird. She was the mom to my whole flock. We had just recently expanded the pen to protect them because I couldn't let them run loose as long as the pest was in the area...and he got her anyway. I'm just heartbroken. I don't even know why she was in the pen...she has been broody and sitting on the nest the last couple of weeks trying to hatch eggs. Maybe she got tired of it and came out.
Sigh....

Please don't be hard on yourself about feeling so much pain.
Last year I lost some of my beautiful pullets because we were A step behind a hawk.
I cried like a baby all that day and the next.
I hope you have a daughter of hers to take her place.
Really sorry for your loss and hurt.............

I am so sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful girl. I lost my buff cochin a few weeks ago...horrible feeling.

If she was broody and was off the nest, she probably got up to eat, drink and go to the bathroom...they get off the eggs at least once per day.
