Isn't he? We have two hens now. The girl we adopted right after this happened, a black star and a partridge silkie we bought a few days ago. He is getting along with them so well. He is really a sweet rooster. He is very respectful of them and will offer them food. He has only tried to mate with them a few times. Nowhere near as much as he did with the other girls. And the other day I observed something strange. He and the silkie were standing completley still with their beaks touching for a long time. Anyone know what this means???

I'm so sorry about your loss. Please be careful as you add new birds, though. Each new addition should be quarrantined for at least 30 days as far away from your chickens as possible. It would be a double trajedy if a disease were to strike at this time. It takes courage to start over, and you certainly have it.

I know how you feal 14+ of my chicks, pullets and cockerels were mauled by a pitbull feamale that was being babysat. She was only supposed to be there for a week. She was there for six months.
She killed the following and more. I might can't remember all. She had pups from his pit.

showgirl pullet
frizzle polish cockerel
frizzle EE cockerel
turken showgirl mix we think
two white silkie pullets
a black silkie pullet
luckly a few of our showgirl died before this so they didn't suffer.

Oh my gosh that's so sad, I am sorry for your loss. It's a terrrible thing that happened. Love the new ones so precious, it will surely help with the loss.
