Last Friday, a stray dog cme in our yard and atacked our rooster. One of his eyes was pretty swollen and the other slightly sunken in. The dog was only able to bite on its head. We didnt think he was going to make it so my husband rung its neck to put it out of its misery and today he came back to life. I pryaed doe the life of this rooster to be spared and I believe that is waht God did. Silly as it may seem to some I believe god cares about roosters too!!!! Anyways, he is slightly wobbly but moving around really well. Completely turns his entire neck around, and is drinking water. He hasnt ate food yet but we will see. My question is about the swollen eye. He has a black and dried puss on the eye ball itself. I tried cleaning but I am concerned that I might be removing his eyeball without trying too! Please advise what to do> For the time being he is being kept in a seperate pin so he can recover. I think werer gonna call him Ress short for resurrection!

That's a nice story...

Use a warm compress on his eye. or just squirt some eyewash into it...

God cares about all of her creatures, great or small.

If you think that he's in pain, you can dissolve a baby aspirin in his water.

I'm glad Ress is still around.

Tell your DH to watch our for the RR (rooster's revenge)

use warm (not hot) sterile saline to flush (copiously) the wounds
1/4 tsp of salt to one quart of water (boil five minutes)
sop cotton wool and gently dab areas wher you can do so ...
If you have a disinfectant use that (diluted idodine will do)
look for any deep puncture wounds or such and be sure to fluch those out particulary well.
You should put him in a temp stable warm environment and give electrolytes in the water. good luck!

Yes! God does care, even for Roosters!!!

AMEN! So good to hear about your roosters "come back". God answered my prayer for my sweet pullet, Muffy, who was literally at deaths door last year. She made a beautiful recovery very quickly. May God bless your rooster with a full recovery to health and a healed eye. I believe you have/will receive some good sound adivce fm some here on the BYC on what you might do to help your roosters eye and further his recovery. Keep the faith. I'll keep you and your roo in my thoughts and prayers.

Okay, let me get this straight, your husband rung his neck on Friday and today is Tues, um, that is amazing. Where was he all this time? I'm glad he is alive, I love roosters, nice roosters, that is. I would really like some details on this one, I love a good story like this.

Thank you to all of you who have responded. I have him in a warm place and will clean the eye as directed. My husband rung his neck Saturday morning because he had bleeding still on his head, he was wabbly, and i didnt want him to suffer. I love animals and treat them like my kids. Anyways, he placed him in one of the trash cans and as of Saturday he WAS dead!!! This morning the trash man came and the rooster manged to get out of the can and was waiting in the driveway. God is sooooo good. and I feel he really answered my prayers. thanks again to all of you and God Bless
