~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

I just love your pics and stories. I want to put a camera in my run and coop. Just have to figure out the ip thing. We do have a router... Just need someone who won't think I'm crazy to talk me through it.

Riley is now sporting a pretty, pink leg band. I have lost my glasses. I took him off his perch and struggled alone trying to get the band on his leg. Some time during the flurry, my glasses went somewhere. I will look for them again in the light of day.... At least I have a pair of readers so I can manage this post.

This is Riley. Minus his leg band, as I took the photo yesterday.

Elizabeth is a Wheaten Amereucana, from Jeremy's eggs. Alice Silver Sebright is on the arm of the bench next to Elizabeth.

Here's my buddy Hitchcock, performing for the ladies next door.

Nugget. Cute little fella, ain't he? He's been challenging CARL lately, surprisingly. Luckily, the geese interrupt the encounters.

Kate and Angus earlier today, with Elvis looking on.

This isn't Patrick, but Michael, who is down inside the empty pond constructed by the former occupants. My friend Soose1 named the two cockerels "Pat and Mike" when she was visiting, because they look so much alike and they do hang around together. Their names morphed into Patrick and Michael. Patrick has gold flashes of feathers on his shoulders, but otherwise looks just like Michael.

And this picture is just a hoot. I saw all those chickens in their dust bathing fox-holes and it made me think I had planted a new crop of chickens. Some of them had dug depressions deep enough to take their entire bodies, and I only saw their heads when they popped up to look around.

Found my glasses. FINALLY. They were camouflaged on the floor of the coop but some daylight glinted off one of the lenses. Whew!

I just stepped outside for a smoke on the veranda. Good thing the veranda is 35 feet long, because there are chickens sunning themselves on it. LOTS of chickens. Not on the railing, but lolling in the sunlight. Well, Carl is on the railing.... Anyway, I hadda document it but can't get a good photo of them all, so I grabbed a pen and an envelope to list 'em all. Here goes, in no particular order:

Blondie
Elizabeth
Paprika
Carl
Alice
Greta
Jack
Samantha
Molly
Phoebe
Becca
Ghost
Bertha
Sister 1
Michael
Minerva
Rebecca
Bernadette
Charlie
Red
Clara
Two of the Josies
Cinnamon
Rhoda
Lola
Daughter 1
Alex
Cagney (hen - I couldn't re-use Lacey's name, so this replacement SLW is Cagney)

Some are behind and under the porch furniture, or perched on it, so even if I could get a shot of the whole veranda, you wouldn't see 'em all. They were not gathered there awaiting my exit from the house, they just like it there. The sun warms the concrete surface nicely.

I think one of the cockerels has been challenging a metal rooster figurine I keep - or am trying to keep! - on the end railing, because twice now I've found it on the ground. Its tail "feathers" and legs have been separated from its body, but they're just tabs and go back into the slots fine. It's been safe up there for months, but those minion cockerels are vying for dominance over just about anything. I know I posted some months ago about one of the baby minions challenging AND fighting "with" my Travelocity Gnome. (And losing. He finally knocked it down one day...... ) So it's not that much of a stretch to think one of 'em is beating up my metal rooster on the veranda railing.

I love all the pics. Of course, I'm fortunate enough to get to come to your house whenever I wanna and visit your flock face-to-face. Went up there this morning & the geese were in the middle of a big case of "the zoomies" when we drove up. They are just so big that when they get the zoomies, they still don't move very fast. But it's still awesome to see!

My big, heavy pieces of furniture are in the house!

One of the burly IT guys with whom I occasionally work came over with his tall, gangly son on Sunday and they brought a heavy duty hand-truck and an appliance dolly (pulled miraculously from the trunk of his red Mustang). They got the stuff into the house and in the places I wanted 'em. He used the long drive as a driver's training session, letting his son (with learner's permit) drive the Mustang in the mountains. His GPS unit got confused so they came "the long way."

After I get all the boxes of my collections unpacked and into the hutch, and all that packing material broken down and out of the house, AND the furniture and floors cleaned, I will take pictures of the interior of my little house to share with y'all.

John is coming over Saturday morning to install the electronic pet door through the bathroom wall to the outside yard. He's also gonna scope out the space and needs for the new shed which we will put together (I will assist) after he has built the concrete pad for it.

I have completed the request for an Administrative Hearing regarding the zoning ordinance violation. The next step is to await the scheduling of the hearing date, which is supposed to be "within 90 days." <*sound of the Jeopardy theme*>

But for right now, it's simply wonderful to have the Craft-Matic bed together and working, instead of just the mattress on the floor. I'm too old to enjoy hefting myself up when getting out of bed. The upright freezer has now rested and come to proper temperature and I can start using it. Both dressers are in the house, so I can put clothes away. The twin trundle mechanism is in place with its mattress and tucked under the main bed frame and mattress, in the guest bedroom/my "office" and incubator room.

Later tonight, I will add a photo of Smudge relaxing on the back of the sofa. He and the dogs are so happy to have "their" sofa back again.

Linda, so glad to hear that all of your furniture is finally in your house. I know I would be a worried wreck this time of year if I had furniture outside. Saying lots of prayers for your upcoming hearing.
