~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Good morning Linda. I have my

you are having a better day today.

I am so glad to hear that it was a dog issue instead of a neighbor issue. Sad that she wasn't where she was supposed to be, but at least now you know. My DH is almost convinced that some of the chickens that we have lost have been to the neighbors. When we were losing them, it always seemed that it was the biggest cockerel who was almost big enough for freezer camp. I am convinced that any that have gone missing has been to the local coyote population. We haven't lost a single one since we don't let them free range when we are not home. In fact the neighbors have told us that they have set traps for the coyotes since they have lost some of their chickens to them as well. We might not have a close relationship with our neighbors, but I really believe that none of them would do such a thing.

Due to a variety of things, I didn't get my incubator table and incubators running in time to set all the eggs I got for the New Year's Day Hatch. 92 eggs. Three were broken, so that left only 89 to set. I gave Hhandbasket a dozen of 'em, so I will have 77 to incubate.

The place for the 'bator table is against a wall in the guest bedroom with a power outlet with TWO-prong outlets. I can plug in only one Octagon20 Advamce EX unit; power for the incubator and humidity pump plus power for the auto-turning cradle. That is simply not sufficient. All my power strips need the third, ground prong. None of my power strips have cords long enough to reach from another outlet on a different wall. (And that one is already maxed out with things in a multi-plug adapter.)

Well, now there is an orange extension cord winding its way from an outlet in the bathroom, into the guest room, powering a six-outlet power strip. Three 'bators are set up, running empty. Had to tinker with one humidity pump this morning.... I will set those 77 eggs as soon as I get home from work.

HAD to go to work today - out of leave credits for the month. But I am feeling closer to normal, which ain't great, but far, far better than yesterday. I slept a whole ton of time yesterday. Even had to watch recorded TV programs about three times to see the whole things.

I have a bunny! I have a bunny!

The vendor brought Simba, a lion head buck, with him today for me to take home tonight. His brother (the vendor's) is REALLY sad and worried about giving up any of his rabbits -just in case I am a rabbit eater- so the mom and babies will be "released" to me at a later date. The vendor has been reassuring his brother that i am an animal lover. He's suggested he and his brother bring the other bunnies to my house in a couple of weeks, so they can see my property and how Simba is doing, as well as check out my chickens. (I give eggs to the vendor on a semi-regular basis.

The rabbit is in a pet carrier with munchies, in Pardeep's car. We took him a small bowl of water. Pardeep said Simba was really scared during his ride from Fresno to Sacramento. I thought it was adorable how he handled Simba to reassure him, and even kissed the bunny's head when taking him out of the carrier and putting him back in again.

I will be receiving the mama and two of the babies once I am all checked out.

Sig line updated.

Simba is pretty scared; perhaps an hour and 15 minute drive on winding roads, climbing in altitude, wasn't all that pleasant for him in his carrier.

He's come to the front of the carrier to sniff noses with Smudge, my Himalayan. Smudge sniffed back, then got that "annoyed cat" expression and he jumped down off the desk. Uh, yes, the rabit carrier is on my computer desk right now. Simba will get the guest bedroom - with his carrier - for the time being, as it's a room I can close off from the other furred folks in this house whilst I am at work. I have to get a good hutch for him. I would like him to get settled in and more calm before I try to take pictures of him.

I got my 77 eggs set in the three Octagon20 Advance EX incubators. There are a few pure breed eggs (Jersey Giant, Barred Rock, Delaware, Buff Orpington, and B/B/S Orpingtons) and quite a few mixed breed surpise eggs from the NYD Hatch Egg Swap. They'll be late for NYD, but that's okay (for me).
