I suspect the real estate gals (who are now aware of the situation!) probably only checked for HOAs and CC&Rs (Community Covenants & Restrictions) NOT zoning restrictions.... But they're 'on the case' now. That's my first step.
It was up to them to check for ordinances, especially since you had it written into your contract that your offer and purchase were contingent upon there being no restrictions to fowl. They did not perform their due diligence on your behalf which they were contractually obligated to perform.
Let us hope their Errors and Omissions Insurance premiums are paid up.
