~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Linda, your silkies are adorable! Silkies are interesting - it seems as though some of them 'get' that they need to drink water, and some don't. I've had 3 batches of silkie chicks. My last batch drank water just fine, no problem (pasty vent, however, was a whole other matter). The previous batch needed a little coaching but made it through. Sadly, the first batch never did get the water connection and most of them died. Glad Farmer Lew is on the case!

Silkies....

Love the coloring on the two dark ones but that little white one looks like a big fluffy pillow of featheriness.
Linda, only you brag about where your chickies poo and proudly I might add

I've never had the drinking problem with my Silks but they've always been brooded with other breeds of chicks so that may have something to do with it.

Skirmish #2 in The Great Chicken War:

When I picked up my mail today, I had two copies of a courtesy notice from the County of El Dorado Environmental Management Services (one certified mail, one regular mail) notifying me of an alleged violation of section blah blah blah, "accumulation of poultry manure." That and other words, like "if," for example, were in bold text in the courtesy notice - that's not my emphasis. Would I please contact the department by telephone to discuss the matter, please? If I don't call, there will be a site visit on or after February 3, 2012 to inspect the property. Oh, and the letter was addressed to "Property Owner."

So I called to speak to the woman who signed the courtesy notice, but she was out of the office. The pleasant person who answered took all the pertinent information, particularly my request for a site inspection on Monday, January 30, 2012, as that will be my next day off during the week. She also noted my description of the Deep Litter Method (as she asked how I managed the poultry manure) and that I compost it when necessary. Also that I had successfully prevailed in an Administrative Hearing on December 9, 2011 - against an invalid citation for keeping chickens on less than an acre, and I believed the same complainant in that case lodged this complaint because he "lost" that one. I would be more than happy to give a tour of my property to demonstrate how the poultry manure is effectively managed. As my property is signed "No Trespassing" at both entrance gates, I couldn't imagine how anyone might have determined my methods did not meet county requirements.

In other news of an extremely positive nature, the cleaning gal did such a good job today I almost cried when I got home and into the house. She'll be back next Tuesday.

Ugh!

It might be a good idea to have the decks power washed before they come. Porch railings etc. Cause the will be the next thing the neighbor calls about.

So, I guess this neighbor up the street just can't stand to lose? I mean, dang, even his letter was sorta nice at the hearing. It sounded like he actually didn't want to write the letter.

Perhaps it's time to turn him in for noise issues because he shoots his rifle past 10pm at things that may or may not even be there?

I wish he would get a life, I really do.

I can't believe you are going through this again! Good for you for taking an active rather than a passive role in addressing it, and hopefully this will be the end of it. When you prevail again this time, perhaps the next thing will be seeing a for sale sign going up in front of his house. We can dream....

Can't we apply the "SSS" method just this one time

I mean come on you lilly livered jerkwad!!! Back off!!!!!!

Arrgghh, we've had our share of neighbors who complained about everything "Dh snores too loud" exaggeration but still..
And oh how I wanted to SSS one of them. We lived in a neighborhood that the CEOfficer said they get no less than 30 complaints from the same person every month on folks around the neighborhood. Umm, don't you think this person has some issues...Oh well were far away from that mess now.

Oh Linda good luck. I think maybe you need to file a harassment charge on his annoying butt.

Is there any way to identify the complainant? If it is the same neighbor, then it seems to me this is bordering on harrassment. I'm no attorney, but if this continues, perhaps a nicely written cease and desist letter on law office letterhead might be a deterrant to future complaints - after you've tried to talk with him about it in a neighborly fashion, of course

Personally, I'm voting for the 'for sale' sign in front of his property...
