Oh wow. That is crazy about the new processing regulations! I wonder if you can't just do it in a shed out of sight of the roads. Especially if you live in the middle of nowhere. No one should have any reason to come poking around.

Then again, no one should have had any reason to go poking around Linda's property either. I'm glad she is still able to get some enjoyment out of her property and flock. Any news regarding the attorney?

Hey there, we've been keeping Linda busy the last few days. She's doing good. We went to lunch with her yesterday and had sushi. A good time was had by all. I think she's just not been on the computer much lately. She's been spending a lot of time doing things like drinking her morning coffee out on the porch while she talks to her flock and watches their little antics. If I didn't know better, I'd say she's enjoying her retirement.

We now have most of her crowers over here. Today was supposed to be processing day, but we got behind in our own chicken upkeep and have to get some things done today, so processing day will be next week. The county is about to take away our ability to legally process our own chickens on our property, even though we live on 7 acres in the middle of nowhere. (Grumbles 4-letter words under breath about local politicians talking outta both sides of their mouth....)

Well im glad linda is doing good and enjoying her flock. That really sucks that they are trying to do that. I think its so lame all the things that are taken away or not prohibited when what you are doing is healthier than buying from the store. I could see if it was a track house and all but come on folks, you have 7 acres.

HH I don't understand why the county is trying to take away your right to process your own birds on your own property. I could maybe understand not processing and selling them from your property (in other words running a business on your property) but processing your own stock for your own food? What comes next, we all go on a government baby bottle so we have no idea how to fend for ourselves if we need to? Ugh that is horrible.

Crap, it actually passed? I don't understand how that happened. We need to get them to reverse that. I bet most people don't even know about it - I just stumbled on it by accident. I bet if people were more aware, they'd put the cabosh on that right away.

It hasn't passed YET, but it has passed the initial BOS resolution to put it on the calender. There's a meeting at Pioneer Park clubhouse on the 20th & we're definitely going to be there for that.

I'm so glad you stumbled across it and sent me the link. We never would have known otherwise. What's even worse is that we found a link to the last BOS meeting minutes that showed our rep who shall remain nameless voted in favor of the anti-slaughtering clause. This is just crazy stupid.

I just can't believe the county is doing this. One of the reasons people enjoy living in this area is that one can live sustainably off their own land if they grow their own food and have one or two of their own livestock animals that they use for feeding their family.

It's just assinine.

I think it's only a matter of time before it's illegal to plant and grow your own tomatoes.

I've been following this thread for a while and thought I'd mention that recently there was a ruling in CA (can't remember where off the top of my head) ....I can find the article and paste it here, that some judge passed a ruling that farmers that own milk cows and sell raw milk (even tho its legal) in fact do not have a right to the milk that comes from their own cows even for private use and things have gone so far as people showing up at customer's doors demanding they confiscate the milk or even that people have to provide names of people that buy from them. Things are getting scary fast, but the absurdity particularly aimed at any ability to live sustainably is frightening.
