Howdy Y'll Chicken people!
I belonged here quite awhile back, and then, dropped out--lots of reasons. I'm now in a new location (and over 55 mobile home park), and have 4 backyard chickens which I got in March, as 1 mo old (hatched in Feb., about 19th). I have two Speckled Sussix; and 2 Easter Egger. I was really hoping to get a couple of Americana Bantams, but, living in a remote mountain town in S.W. NM, I just couldn't find a source. So, I have these 4 girls, raised from babies, and have just started laying. I think both Speckled's are laying, and 1 EE. The other EE is my concern: --she's kinda dumb about eating. She knows her name "Gertie", but will often be off by herself catching ants (we have a lot), while the others are getting cucumber peelings (a favorite), or mealworms, etc. I have seen her pecking at her mash/pellet mix, and drinking from a 2- nipple waterer, but she is so bony! She's feisty, but just seems kinda dumb about where to get the best eats, and when! Is there anything I can do to help this poor little dumb cluck?
I'm 76, live alone (not by choice), in a wonderful community. I also have a cat who belonged to a friend for 7 years, who moved to the desert and was afraid the coyotes would eat her, so gave her to a mutual friend of ours. Their other cat didn't tolerate her, she she got evicted, and lived outside all winter. I adopted her, and told her this is her forever home, and she's treated well--tho I've recently discovered she has beginning kidney dysfunction. Well, as we get older, we all seem to have 'something!'
Any help anyone can give me for Gertie, I'd appreciate--. Also, I'd like to know is there a thread specifically for EE's ?
See ya around!

Make yourself at home here.....
Mine love crumbles and will eat all the crumbles before any scratch gains .Haven't heard of a EE thread but there is lots of EE owners on BYC. Is she at the bottom of the pecking order. Are the others running her away from the feed ?Oh have you dewormed her yet ?Just tossing out things hope you figure it out and she gains weight .
We are glad you joined our flock!
