Whether or not the child was in danger has absolutely nothing to do with the number of children that get injured by family dogs. This comment is totally irrelevant.

And for what it's worth, any wild animal that has the potential to injur that is within close proximity to a small child constitutes a danger to me.

Why? The question was whether the 5-year old in question was in danger of being attacked by the bobcat. I merely pointed out that the original poster hadn't actually established that a 5-year old child WAS in danger. Or even anywhere NEAR the bobcat for that matter. In fact, if you had read carefully, I believe the original complaint was that the bobcat was going after the chickens. Not the 5-year old.

To therefore make the stunningly disgenuous leap in logic to assume that the 5-year old was also in danger is nothing more than a straw-man argument.

And you live in Oregon? Sure must be just a barren wasteland around you then.

Hahaha, you are too funny.

And yea, if a bobcat (or any other animal) was going after my (or rather silkiechicken's) chickens and I was there, it would have 230 grains of expanding lead in its head, provided I didn't miss.

And around me in Oregon, I don't see predators that could hurt me (besides humans). So you could call it a baren wasteland

Okiechick,
Sorry your thread has been taken over with arguments.

When this happens to me I just delete the entire topic.

I'm sorry about your chicken and I hope she gets better.

What! This forum allows you to delete your own thread! Haha, man... If that was only around when I was big into forums (I know, active today, but a rarity) at a different place.

And yes, this thread has gone towards the crapper, but hey, at least it's got people thinking

I too hope the chicken gets better.

Can chickens really recover from something like that? I mean, you can see meat!

I think as long as you care for the wound properly and watch for maggots then yes, it can heal. There might not be any feathers there after all is said and done though.

Wow... That kind of healing is totally unknown to me. I'm just used to considering injuries to humans. Good information to know, and the survival of the chicken is what is important. Though it may not be as pretty anymore, it should still come running when you come out with food!

Why? It's a good conversation. Nobody here is getting too upset (I don't think?). Where else can people with different view points from around the world meet and discuss important topics like this?

Well, okay, on the internet there are hundreds of places but it's still a good conversation.

I am not one for arguing!!!!! I was SIMPILY stating the fact that this is a CHICKEN FORUM and if people want to argue then exchange phone numbers and emails and do it then.

I have all the right in this forum to say that it doesn't matter if you think animals should be killed or not is not a topic for discussion on this forum. READ THE RULES and keep smart ass remarks to yourself!!! And no this is NOT the place for debate!

I just want to make clear the purpose of this forum.
This forum is for dealing with predators and pests. Period.

Although some ways are not considered ideal to some, it serves the purpose of removing the offending predator. If you have an idea or a helpful comment, please do reply. If it is a sarcastic comment about the disposal or capture of a predator, please keep your thoughts to yourself. We are not here to judge one another on methods or ways and means.

For instance, Trapping..this is a legal defence and it is not open for debate whether you prefer this method or not. This forum is designed as an aid to those who are having predator problems. It is not a debate forum on ethics.

Please keep this in mind as we all learn from one another how to deter predators. Thanks.
