Rhode Island Red Roo or Hen???

My young roo could likely pass confirmation as a pure Rhode Island Red, but he's half Australorp by his dad.  Funny how that can happen. His one and only nest mate, the black hen, is also half and half, but couldn't pass as a pure Australorp due to a rusty chest and neck.
.

That's neat. As if your Roo got all of the RIR gene. I'm sure he's also nice looking Roo by now....

I have a hen ( i hope) that is 3 months old and she has as much combs and wattles as the chicken does in the picture.

My young roo has recently been humping every hen in sight. Whenever the older, bigger, roo, sees this, or hears the cries of the hen, he comes running like a hero, knocks him off, and chases him away. The young roo isn't big enough yet to challenge him.

@ Tamaro - TY for this thread it's very helpful to see the progression and what to look for in the RIR as they mature. I think I have two Roos out of six and maybe a sleeper. Gonna wait another week and repost the photos.

That bird would never pass as a pure Rhode Island Red, a production red maybe but that is it. The colour and type is all wrong
