I am such a beginner. This is one of my 12 week old RIR. Bigger of the two, but only by a bit. What do you experts think? Roo or Pullet? Thanks in advance.

Hi I am Nicole,I am a beginner chicken handler. We have 12 15 wk old RIRs,they are so beautiful, fun and sweet. Really enjoyed watching them grow and change can't wait to get more!

I'm going to stick my toes in here and say hi. I think my only other posts here have been in the intro section, but I'm a frequent lurker! We are chicken newbies, but so far so good. About a month ago, we got 4 2 week(ish) RIRs from our local farm store, so they are about 6 weeks old now. We're starting small and decided on RIRs for their heartiness and tolerance for being handled. I would love to branch out, but figured if I can't figure these girls out, I'm not cut out for chicken-raising. I, too, am amazed at how fast the grow and change. My girls are "free rangers" now, although I use that term loosely. They are pretty much either being terrorized by my 5 year old or hanging out under the shed or in the rose bush all day with frequent supervision. They are too fun to watch, fighting over grasshoppers, or eating weed seeds. They better get braver as they grow or our yard will be just as full of ticks as it is now! They don't venture far.

I'll come back with pics when I can.
