Here are some from a broody hatch. I have been working on the yellow legs.

I had my first single comb hatch from my Rose Combs. I have never before had a single comb from them.

The older girls and my older boy and one of his son's. My older boy died not long ago. Saw nothing remarkable so his death must have been like a heart attack. He was ok the day before and the next day I found him expired in his coop.

Here are more chicks. Not a good picture but this is their first day outdoors. Need to do some coop cleaning and move birds so I can put the older Heritage RIR chicks in another coop so these can go into the chick coop.

The chick coop with some of last years hatch. There are some RSL, Heritage RIR and RC RIW. There is netting over the top of their pen.

This was my first RIW male. He recently died of what I believe was natural causes and not from a predator. He was fine one day, in fact when I went out to collect the eggs one evening he was taking care of his girls. The next morning I found him inside of the coop dead on the floor. I couldn't find anything when looking him over.

Here is one of his sons.

This is the same son as in the picture above. He got best of breed and reserve breed at the show I took him to. Of course he didn't have any competition, but I guess the judges saw something. The pictures aren't the best and make his legs look pink. Actually my phone takes better pictures than my camera does.

This is what I have been working on for leg color.

Here are my Rhode Island Whites--bought them this past weekend from the Urban Chicken Store in Raleigh. A little nervous though they started sneezing a lot. :(

I use ACV in the water and that always helps with sneezing and just in good general health. 1/4 to 1/3 cup of AVC to a gallon of water. These look like they are probably a commercial RIW because I think I am seeing single comb not rose comb.

Finding quality RIW's is very hard. Ryan Carey has some excellent birds...so do I but I need to get a new influx from him to make mine a really strong line of RIW'S, I need a little more width and to pull up some of the lower fluff on mine.

These pullets are looking better every day.

I just got some Rhode Island Whites from Ideal Poultry. They are just a few weeks old now. No pictures yet but will take some.
The Single Comb females can be bred with either a Rhode island Red or New Hampshire Red male to produce Red Sex-Links. The male RSL's can go to freezer camp.

I wish I had someone close to me with RC RIWs. I am line breeding but need at least a new cockerel. My original male died a few months ago so now all I have is his offspring. I recently sold some young males that aren't going to make the cut for showing but some people just want to breed them for pets not to show. My last original female was killed the other morning I think by an owl. I have been shutting them in their coops at night and letting them out at dawn. I went out a little while after I had let them out and found her dead in the pen. My best guess is either a hawk or an owl killed her. I have seen both around lately. I bought enough netting to cover the remaining pens that aren't covered. I bought a 100'x50'. It isn't quite long enough but I have a little netting left over from the pens I have already covered to complete the job.

Do you know where you can get rose comb Rhode Island Whites? I am in West Virginia. Thanks.
