Rhode Island White Thread

Pics
I have some Rose Comb Rhode Island White cockerels for sale. I have been showing them and have gotten Best of breed, Best Variety, Reserve Breed and Reserve Variety at the shows. I live in North Central Florida just outside of Ocala, Florida. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM.

Anyone from the Springfield, MO area with young Rhode island white laying hens or pullets for sale? If so, PM me and let me know price and your location. I'm not wanting to go through a hatchery.
I live closer to Rogersville than Springfield.
Thanks!

There aren't very many breeders of RIW's that are the real true breed. Only person that I know of that has them is Ryon Carey in Kansas. I talked to him not to long ago and thought he said that he had some birds coming up. If you want the true APA Rhode Island Whites I would contact him.

For anyone in Florida who would like to start breeding Rose Comb Rhode Island Whites, I will be bringing three sets of trios to the following swaps.

Saturday November 9th and Saturday November 16th

Hello:

I´m Raul, from Spain. I´m very interested in getting this breed. In Spain I can´t find it. Is possible to send hatching eggs or pullets to Spain?, Maybe, I could travell to your farm and bring the chickens to Spain.

Thank you.

The importing and exporting of eggs and stock is really hard. If you have the money to spend on vet inspections, licenses etc. Then it is possible. I know that Greenfire has spent a lot of money and time getting breeds into the US. I would think it would be the same to get them out of the US..

My RIW is mean....she picks on all my hens.
What do you do?

How much space is there for them to run around in. Often that comes a problem when they do not have enough room to move around. I rarely have this problem because they always seem to eventually work things out. What might try is to pull the hen out from the group for a couple of days. Put her back in and see if she remains the dominate one. That might change the pecking order but also can be risky if she gets into a major fight.

You just have a mean RIW. You can have a mean bird with any breed. I had a RIR hen that was very aggressive and brutal with the other birds. She would attack them and peck them to the point I was afraid she was going to kill one of the pullets. I eventually cut a second pop door into the coop and put another feeder in their run as she would stand guard in the pop door and not let the others in to eat. I finally took her out of the flock for a few days and put her in a cage by herself. When I put her back with the flock she immediately started bullying the others again so I took her out for a few more days and then put her back and she went at it again. I had a hose next to the coop and one day I was out at the coop and she jumped on one of the pullets and was really beating her up so I took the hose and really gave it to her. She was really very surprised as she was so intent on beating up the pullet she didn't even know I was there and when the water hit her at full force she jumped right off of the pullet and ran into the coop and didn't come out for a long time. I did this several times every time I saw her bullying one of the other birds. Eventually she got the message. That worked for me but may not work for someone else. Good luck...

Had a bully female about a year and a half ago. (not a RIW) I won't even recount the tales of woe. She was a holy terror to the birds and even growled at me whenever she saw me. I just figured she was a bit mental. Since she was approaching her 5-6 pound range, she was mighty tasty. At some point, it is foolishness to deal with birds who are mental cases. Every flock keeper has their fuse length or tolerance level, and I admit, mine is quite limited. LOL

A sharp axe can solve many a flock issue.
